"We sincerely apologize for the confusion created on this project. The estimator did not know the customer found us through Angie's List, which is why the 10% discount was not included at the time of the estimate. We applied the discount immediately after learning the customer was a Angie's List subscriber. We made a huge mistake in continuing the work after we uncovered the extra work needed to complete the job properly. We set up an appointment the next day to show the customer, once learning the project would require double the time to complete, due to building procedure that was used under the first layer of flooring (completely unforeseeable), but the customer cancelled, and was unable to visit the site for four days, and we erroneously made the decision to complete the job. It was our mistake to do so, and we accept responsibility for that decision. The customer received approximately $9,000 in abatement at no cost ($5,000 didn't come close to covering the cost of the extra work, we were simply trying to come to a compromise). At no time was payment demanded; rather we explained what was encountered and what we were up against (timeline, abatement regulations, etc) and asked for assistance. We understand that, to the customer, this was a hassle. We value each and every customer we do work for, and this type of scenario is very rare for our company, and does not represent our company mission. Our customers, based on surveys we send, are very satisfied with our work, and highly recommend us to their friends and relatives for similar work. We have taken corrective action internally so this will not happen again."
