From initial meeting to the bid, the design, the work, and the finishing, Tyrone and crew were all things you would hope to find in a contractor: prompt, courteous, clean, professional, personable, cheerful, and, of most lasting importance for the work, detail oriented, thorough, and skilled at their craft.
Tyrone started by explaining the basic construction options and offering his recommendations and reasoning. The job included going into the crawl space under the house to reinforce the joists under the hearth. This resulted in a rock-solid base for the hearth. We had already bought the flagstone, one large and three largish pieces of stardust quartzite. I had attempted to design an arrangement of the stones to achieve the size and shape required for heat and ember protection. After looking at the project Tyrone drew up some design options, all of which were superior to what I had come created. As we fine-tuned the design to make the actual cuts in the stone, Tyrone was very receptive to any and all input we provided. For example, there were visual features and patterns in the stone that we wanted to highlight, and he made sure to maximize those features. We were particular about the overall shape as well, and he was eager to incorporate our input into each cut.

To function as a heat shield, the tile wall needed to be built with a one inch spacing from the drywall. This created a tricky problem to finish off the visible edge of the tile and cement board backer while still allowing space for air flow. I had no idea how this could be done nicely, but Tyrone suggested a couple of excellent options. The result was a barely visible gap with a very clean visual line that still allows sufficient airflow at the sides and top. I couldn't be happier with this result.
While laying the wall tiles Tyrone noticed, starting on the third box of tile, that the surface texture and coloration was slightly different from the first two boxes. He pointed this out and investigated. Ultimately the tile store corrected the order and the wall was completed correctly. Because of this, though, he needed to remove about 1/3 of the wall he had tiled and reschedule the work until the correct tile arrived. This, I think, is a good example of Tyrone's attention to detail, integrity, and determination to make sure the customer is satisfied.
I can unreservedly recommend Snosrap Tile for any stone and tile work. The price I think was very reasonable for the work accomplished. The stone, tile, and grouting was done beautifully. And finally, Tyrone and Matt were truly a pleasure to work with.
