It was a really positive experience! Dan did a focused and thoughtful job, and looked after every detail. He was very knowledgeble about the area and old houses, Victorian and Craftsman, both from a building standpoint and designwise. He pointed out and repaired little problems here and there. He made good suggestions without trying to sell us things and selected high quality products. He was patient and went and had the paint remixed when the color wasn't working out after the first coat. He made several trips so he could allow paint and caulk to dry properly. He was beyond careful about not leaving a mess or tracking things into the house.
We were happy we had him to call when we needed the thresholds in the back replaced; the new ones are a huge improvement, beautifully crafted. I could swear the doors are smiling when they close. This kind of detail really makes our home a joy to live in.
We benefitted from his longtime interest in historical homes. We will call him back when we're ready to do a larger porch job we have planned. This is the kind of person we want to have working in our house. We did not get other estimates but the price seemed really reasonable, in line with other work we've had done, and definitely worth it because it's done right.
