Rug Cleaning & Repair Darmany

These rugs are made by different tribes by hand and vegetable dyes are used. The designs are intricate and tell a story about the particular area where they are made in Turkey. Apparently, the vegetables and wool were very attractive to the moths. They decimated areas of the carpet where they deposited their larvae which hatched.
The first thing David did was to clean the carpet, as it had not been cleaned in years. He then began the painstaking work of restoring the fringe and repairing the holes left by the moth larvae once they hatched. This is a labor intense process. In some areas, the moths ate the carpet down to the weft and it was threadbare.  
There are very few providers who could deliver such old world quality and skill in the middle of Los Angeles. The carpet is beautiful--the colors vibrant and uniform. It is difficult for me to tell where David matched color because it is just like it was when I purchased it in Istanbul. He restored the fringe beautifully. The carpet has not looked like this in many, many years! I put it on the hardwood in a bedroom and it looks wonderful. 
 At the beginning of this process I was worried, because some restorers and oriental carpet dealers do not appreciate Turkish or tribal rugs. David however, has a vast knowledge of Persian rugs AND Turkish carpets, and even studied in Istanbul for a period of time.  Take a look at my pictures, before and after.
