 + -1 moreMy water heater quit working so I replaced the thermostats and heating elements. I screwed up the wiring labeling during re-assembly and caused a large electrical short which blew up the double-throw circuit breaker. Unfortunately, the house is rather old and the replacement circuit breaker is not available in most hardware stores. Jay came to my house and showed me my wiring mistake. He was also able to acquire the circuit breaker from a wholesaler. He was more into teaching than fixing and showed me what I had done wrong and gave me other money-saving maintenance tips about my water heater. His service cost $60 for roughly 1 hour of his time. Unfortunately the weird circuit breaker cost around $100. Jay called me about a week later to see if my water heater was fixed and still working.
Description of Work: Not so much a typical hardware store, it is more like a community service store. You can buy or rent used or new equipment or you can buy new or used home supplies. You can also seek professional advice at the store or at your home. If a professional comes to your home, professional service fees are less than the usual market value, and the professional assistance was competent and friendly in my case.
