HOUSE CALLS

After we paid 30% of his labor costs up front, plus $800 for materials, Mr Smith took 2 weeks to appear at our house with materials. After telling us that it would take about 2 weeks to complete the job, we finally had to fire him after 6 weeks of sporadic, poor quality work. He advertises himself as a master craftsman, but I really think that this simple fence and gate job was way beyond his capabilities. I have photos of the exposed screws, the patched up work, the fence he built that is secured to another fence that is all but falling down, the gate that clears the electric meter by about 1/2", the fence that is buried in the dirt, the posts that are poorly installed. We were naive, and didn't take the time to check this guy out thoroughly. I'm posting this so that, hopefully, others in the community can avoid hiring this man. Since we've fired him, he has sent us an e-mail asking us to leave him a check for additional materials that he bought without even providing us with receipts first! His behavior has been completely unprofessional, his communications have been strange and unclear. A few days after we fired him, we discovered him going down our driveway with a ladder, but he made a bee-line back to his car when we saw him. We've told him that if we see him on our property again, we will call the police. Yikes. Stay away from this guy!
