I've wanted to remodel my tiny bathroom for quite some time. I live in a 2BR/1BA house and the bath had not been touched since I moved in. As with all projects at my house, I act as the general contractor. Jonathan has done the tiling and flooring and other subs are doing the plumbing, electrical, tub refinishing, cabinetry, etc. I'm doing the rest myself. Jonathan has done work for me before; this is just the latest wonderful work he has done for me. I had purchased the decorative tile, the marble, and all the fixtures previously. He came early on a Monday morning and started by protecting my floor and rugs with a taped down paper and shielded the tub with a piece of plywood. He had the entire tub surround ripped out in a matter of hours. This was NOT an easy task since the previous tiler had used chicken wire and cement under the tile. I wanted the tile to be virtually flush with the wall, so he inset the backer board right to the studs. He closed the door to minimize dust, even though the bathroom has no window. At the end of each day, he cleaned up and left the bathroom in a usable state. The next morning the plumber came and installed the rough valve for the new faucet/mixer and a new trap. Jonathan had all the backer board and the first tiles installed the second day. The next day was the tiles up to the decorative border, then the border on the third day and the grouting on day four. He worked really long days so he could be finished in fewer days. The marble I got is darker than the decorative strip, so he used two different colors of grout: one for the marble and a very light one for the decorative border. The thing that women will love is that he did an EXCELLENT job of cleaning up at the end.
Description of Work: Removed old bathroom tile and old underlayment, installed backer board and installed new 12" marble tiles with a decorative border. The artisan tile I used for the border was very challenging, due to being non-standard (some were parallelograms) and my desire to NOT have any edge treatment. The price above is labor only.
