Of course we wish that it hadn't happened at all, but considering it did, it could not have gone better. As I said before we have lived in our home for 40 years and the house was built in the early 1950's. There was a lot that we had to do ourselves, that really had nothing to do with our claim (i.e. get rid of things that we had accumulated over the last 40 years). We also needed to do repairs that were unrelated to the claim and that is still a work in progress. And, of course, once one thing is fixed and looks good, it really brings emphasis to everything else that now looks very shabby. So we're working on things bit by bit, and have to say that the vendors that we are using are ones that we came to know through our experience with our "flood" or have been recommended by vendors that we worked with during that time.
I think that a lot of what I should be listing in this section I already listed in the other section, but it is a bit confusing. We have lovely new cork floors in bedrooms and hallway, laundry room, and bathroom. It is an upgrade and so we are paying the difference, well worth it! The vendor that Farmers works with and recommended, Craftsman Floor Covering, Petaluma and they met all our needs with a wonderful selection of materials, and superb installers. The main bathroom has new sheetrock as the sheetrock had water damage. The other rooms had the original Philippine Mahogany, so they just required extensive cleaning, most of which was taken care of as a part of the asbestos removal of the floors. The only mahogany that needed replacing was behind the washer/dryer where the water had sprayed it for hours.
Other than the "drying out", the asbestos removal took the longest time, mainly because of preparation and testing, the crew actually did all the removal in one day.
Farmers really kept the ball rolling, and we were able to celebrate Christmas with visiting family and even managed to decorate, something that seemed like it would be absolutely impossible in mid October.
The actual claim was closed out in early December, which I think is very good, considering that a little over a third of our house received extensive damage.
Again, I am so impressed with Farmer's Insurance and especially Paul Demil agency. We felt through the entire process that we were valued like family, not just clients. Personal touches and concern, every step of the way, I would gladly rate them A+++++++ in all aspects.
