I’m a general contractor in San Francisco, and A Lost Art recently installed a large bluestone staircase for us on a residential project in the city. The finished product was excellent. This job came with a lot of tricky details, and Doug worked closely with our team to make sure everything aligned with the client’s expectations. We were very happy with the craftsmanship and collaboration.

We hired Doug at A Lost Art to do extensive paths and stone work on our property. He did a beautiful job and the whole job is a stone "work of art". Doug was great to work with and has a terrific creative eye. If you want special masonry work, Doug is your guy.

We asked Doug and his team to re-landscape our sloped front yard by adding two sets of beautiful stone steps and a natural-looking dry stack retaining wall. We could not be happier with the result. Doug was the most responsive of the three bids we obtained. The company name is apt, as they employ equal amounts of art and stone masonry skill. They meticulously selected and precisely placed every stone and step. Our project included replacing irrigation lines and installing just the right amount of night time lighting. We would give A Lost Art Stonework a perfect 5 Star rating.

Very happy with stone walls and stairs built on a very difficult site with limited space and lots of pipes to work around. Turned out beautiful and solved a failing old wood retaining wall problem and broken water main issue.

Doug Bryant and his crew at A Lost Art transformed our garden in so many wonderful ways, all around the house on a very steep hill with quite a few unique challenges. He created dry-stacked retaining walls that have held up perfectly for 20 years, and made patios, walkways and special features (multiple stone benches) that we treasure. Doug is an extremely creative problem-solver and comes up with outside-the-box ideas that are delightful. If I could give A Lost Art Stonework SIX stars I would.

Wow, these guys are incredible. I had a nice outdoor kitchen built in my backyard with only one thing left to do- have stone veneer installed on the side walls. Everyone I called had high prices or said they weren't available for the next 4 to 8 weeks. Then I logged into home advisor.com and explained my project and I got hooked up with A Lost Art stone. Literally 30 hours later my project is complete and looks amazing. Doug met me early in the morning after being contacted the day prior and picked up the stone and he and his two helpers went to work for the next 12 hours. They were very professional with amazing skills with stone and did a great job cleaning up. The job was a little bit complicated given the slant of the concrete and they had to construct tricky stone corners. I would highly recommend Doug and A Lost Art Stone to others looking to do stone projects. Companies like this are hard to find especially with such quick turnaround and high quality results. Very creative, competent, quick and hard-working. Built a fabulous dry-stack stone wall that is incredibly beautiful. Came in ahead of schedule and had very clear and good ideas about the wall. These people love stonework and it shows. Well worth contacting.

hired one of your contractors for my project rebuilding a stone pathway and wall, Doug Bryant (dba "A Lost Art"). I am trying to avoid using the much overused "amazing", but he and his crew are wonderful craftsmen. Doug showed up when he said he would, provided me with a thoughtful proposal and a detailed bid, and produced a finished product which is wildly better than I had imagined possible. Doug is a master craftsman in stone, so I would urge those who hire him to solicit his input at the outset. His specialty is drystone (fitted stonework without mortar). Now that the Mayans are gone, he is probably one of the finest practitioners. Also an intelligent charming individual. Couldn't be happier. And I would never have found him without you

Doug was quick go respond. He sent his associate, Steve, to my home and he showed up early in the morning to accommodate my schedule. The work was done neatly (roots had pushed up the bricks on my stairs) and the finished repair looks awesome. What a joy to have skilled workman with great follow through!

Doug refaced our fireplace. The design he created was terrific and the stones chosen (limestone & marble) were beautiful. He also did a great job repairing a planter and pillar outside of the house. Brick and stone work is costly because, as Doug's company name states - it is a lost art. He loves what he does and it shows in his work. Great work ethics too! I highly recommend him.

Doug was fantastic- quick to respond to my request for the job, turned around a visit to the site and an estimate within 24 hours of contacting us. He was able to make great suggestions to enhance what we were looking for in our flagstone patio and bring it in exactly on our budget. We are thrilled.
