The Painting Company

Nile Schmidt is a true professional. I had him paint the outside and inside of a rehab I purchased in late 2008. Almost 1 decade later and the paint job has held up very, very well as I had a contractor over recently who thought the work had been done in the last 2 years (prompting me to write this review). Nile is great and easy to work with and his team is prompt and meticulous. If you want quality work done in a timely fashion at a reasonable price, I can't recommend anyone better than Nile and The Painting Company!

Five years later, the Painting Company's job is holding up remarkably well. No peeling, no fading. We still get compliments on how nice the house looks.

I called The Painting Company to paint all walls, plus the kitchen cabinets, in a 3 bedroom townhouse we were putting up for sale.  Nile came to the property within a day, provided a very reasonable quote within 24 hours, and had workers available within two days.  He assembled a large crew to finish the job quickly.  They did a fantastic job of removing nails and screws from the walls and patching the holes, removing all electrical outlet and switch plates and preparing the area to ensure no paint ended up on the new hardwood floors.  Nile's team finished the work done in three days with PERFECT results.
I would definitely use The Painting Company again and would highly recommend Nile and his crew.

He is an excellent painter. They are excellent. His price was also very competitive. He did an excellent work. People were here every morning and they showed up on time. The crew was excellent.

Nile and his crew were outstanding.  Very easy to do business with.  Nile returned calls and emails promptly.  His team of painters arrived promptly each day of this three-day job and communicated their plan so I would know when they would arrive and approximately when they would finish.  The quality of the work is top notch and, for the scope of work being done, I think the price was very reasonable.  I've always done my own painting but after this experience I think I'll hang up my brush and just call Nile.

The service was good. He is a little more expensive but I did not care because I wanted someone to do the work right. He was very professional and showed up on time. We had a miss communication about which bathrooms to do.  However, he came back and painted the right bathroom for free.  I was very pleased with the service.

i highly recommend Nile and his company for their professionalism and outstanding work.  We are constantly getting compliments from friends and neighbors, and even strangers passing by.  Our house is an Arts and Crafts bungalow, built in 1910, so we were very particular on paint colors and craftsmanship.  Nile and his workers did not disappoint.  They were always punctual, very polite, and always cleaned up at the end of the day.  They were also very accommodating when we changed our mind about certain colors.  They were able to darken the color of our porch, for example, when we didn't like the initial shade.  We highly recommend them!

Work was preformed professionally and on time with quality materials.

Nile was prompt in providing the job estimate and answered all my questions quickly. He estimated the job would take two guys 1 day. Although his price was the highest of the 3 that I received. I thought paying 50% more than the next highest estimate would get me a better job. Not quite.
The two painters showed up on time on the appointed day and worked until the end of the day and then told me that the popcorn material they applied to the ceiling may not dry white in color. So, they will have to come back again a second day to repaint the patched ceiling areas. A few hours after they left, I noticed that the cinder block wall that was painted with special water resistant material started turning light brown in many spots meaning something was bleeding through. Nile said he didn't know the paint he got didn't have a stain blocker.
As a result, the cinderblock wall also needed to be repainted. I also noticed that parts of the cinder block wall were not adequately painted and the gray block wall was showing through the single coat of paint. Nile agreed that parts of the wall were ?thin?. He said he?ll have it covered up as stated in the scope work. One painter came back the second day and said because the special sealer paint he applied to wall, he will have to come back again on a 3rd day to put a finish coat on the newly treated areas. This surprise meant that I had to remove all the stored garage items out of the way again and park the cars outside for another night.
Early on the 3rd day, the painter was to arrive to finish the job at 7 am, but arrived late. The painter told me he was late because he was working on another paint job until 2am that morning. Guess that made it my problem.  Compared to other reviews of this company, my expectations for experience and work quality were not met. In this case, one doesn't always get what they paid for.

The price is reasonable. They responded to out request in a timely manner. They showed up on time (Nile Schmidt was the in-charge person). The results satisfactory.

We used Nigel and the Painting Company's service over 6 months ago and would have used them with our most recent project had they been available. We were very pleased with their service and the job they provided us, so much so that they have set a high standard for other painters/contractors we hire.

Nigel came out and did an estimate on our Kitchen, Dining Room, Living Room (walls and ceiling), stair case, bathroom and laundry room. We were happy with the estimate and decided to move forward, he suggested we give him the swatches of our chosen colors as he gets a better deal on the paint because he is a contractor, rather than us picking it up ourselves at the hardware store.

He had two painters working at our place for two days and they did an amazing job. The paint looks fantastic, and they took plenty of time to move all of the furniture to the center of the rooms, they covered all flooring and furniture in plastic and everything was fully protected. They were very friendly and even brought my husband tamales on one of the mornings! There was no mess for us to clean up after they finished the paint job and they regularly checked with us to see how we liked what they had done so far, which as a homeowner, is very reassuring. 

We highly recommend using Nigel and his painters at The Painting Company for any of your paint jobs, they have fair prices and provide a quality result.

The owner of The Painting Co., Nile, was prompt to the initial appointment / estimate and was able to work with my very quick turn-around time frame.  The painters were professional and arrived promptly every day -- calling when arriving.  The quality of work was 2nd to none, and a great value at the price.  One negative was that the project took longer than anticipated, though this was primarily due to the fact that there were multiple layers of wallpaper that needed to be removed (neither Niles nor I were aware or anticipated that there might be a layer of wallpaper behind the existing wallpaper).  The need to spend more time on the wallpaper removal resulted in a slightly higher final bill vs. the original estimate.  While it would have been easy for me to refuse to pay the additional amount it seemed reasonable given the amount of extra man-hours required to complete the project, and the high quality of the work.

A few notes about the work: the crew taped and covered everything that they did not remove; cleaned up after themselves; and painted everything that required painting.  There were a few scratch marks in both of the bathtubs caused from the ladder, but nothing that a little bit of cleaning powder and a sponge did not immediately fix.

In general I would not only strongly recommend  The Painting Co., but I would personally never think of using another company in the future.  Best of all Niles had the work completed before taking a dime of money, and actually needed a little prodding to get a bill.  This was probably due to the fact that the job was less than $2,000 but the fact that he wanted me to be fully satisfied before collecting money demonstrates the level of commitment to service that The Painting Co. has.  

In conclusion I can only say: if you are using any other company for your interior painting other than The Painting Co. then you have picked the wrong firm!

We found The Painting Company on Angie's List. The owner came out promptly and gave us an estimate. There was a tremendous amount of prep work and repair of broken siding. The estimate included everything except the two security doors which we contracted for later on and the repair of some broken window panes. The crew arrived promptly every morning at 8 and worked diligently all day. They were polite and helpful; considerate of the neighbors. They carefully taped over new windows which we had installed and made sure the site was clean and tidy every day before they left.  Some of our windows had been painted shut over the years but now all are working well. The foreman, Martin, consulted us frequently and was able to accommodate all our requests. The crew removed cable wiring and carefully replaced it when the job was done.
We are completely satisfied. The Painting Company crew was a pleasure to work with. The whole job took about 10 working days - but every inch of our house is renewed!
The bid was the second lowest we received of three bids.

October 2011 Update: Since we had the Painting Company paint our house, we've had five other contractors (flooring, plumbing, gutters, cement and handyman) come through our property to do different smaller jobs. All five have said some variation of "Wow. This is a terrific paint job!" Compliments from fellow contractors!

Another superior job by Nile's crew, the third one in two years.  Excellent work, far superior to any we've had.  Unquestionably, the best, most qualified painting contractor in the SG Valley.

It went great. Nile and Martin were exceedingly professioal and courteous. They also started the job quickly and finished in 3 days. I am very happy with the results and would hire them again without hesitation. The only reason I gave them a B on punctuality is that appointment time for the estimate came and went without hearing from Nile. After I left a voicemail inquiring, NIle returned my call within a few minutes and was charmingly apologetic. He had forgotten we had the appointment. My gut told me punctuality wouldn't be a fatal problem, though, for the ultimate goal of getting the job done well and promptly, and indeed it wasn't.

I think I did that in the paragraph above but Mr. Schmidt was courteous, on time, professional and his assistant Victor (who did the actual painting) was fantastic. They completed all three jobs (plus one more little fix that they threw in for free) in about 4 hours. There was one problem in that the NO VOC paint that I was using from Home Depot - when he got to Home Depot they didn't have it so he was able to have the paint mixed perfectly - also NO VOC paint from another place. I would use them again and again.

Nile, the owner of the Painting Company, was responsive and exactly on time for an appointment. He is professional and knowledgeable, and is an extremely experienced painter. We discussed with him interior paint jobs, application of molding, color selection, and trim. He is widely respected, and one of the top, if not the best, painter in the SGV. He is scheduled to start work in January.

My house had just been termiited and there was extensive damage, (eaten rafter tails). Nile gave me a very fair estimate, the cost was a little more because additional damage was found after the estimate and prewashing. His painters are very professional, cleaned up every day and were very polite. The painters were careful with the plants around the house, including taking down climbing roses and reattaching them. Nile also fixed a stucco job done by others that looked messy. They protected the new built in barbecue area and everything else. If I could up load pictures you would see what I mean! The termite company rescheduled me so Nile moved my time back and still completed the work before my east coast company arrived. I had two separate parties after the painting was complete, everyone loved the colors and noticed what a great job had been done on my 81 year old home. I will definitely call Nile in the spring for interior painting.
