Gerald inspected our house when we bought it. When we remodeled it a few years later I called Gerald to see if he could take a look at things before I made the final payment to the contractor. He was happy to help and found some important things that I never would have seen on my own. I can't recommend Gerald's services more highly. He is thorough and knowledgeable and shows real concern for the people he works with.

This was the second time I used Scotland Yard Inspections (Gerald). I can't speak more highly about this business!! Gerald is a true professional and his work probably saves people thousands of dollars each week! Gerald's home inspection report was extremely thorough as it was the first time I used him and it helped get us a substantial credit on work that the prospective property we wanted to have needed done. I am sure that due to the clear and precise report done by Gerald the sellers had no choice but to offer us a credit and that is a testament to his work. If you are looking for a home inspection in the greater LA area, honestly look no further. Make sure you book him at least 1 week in advance as his services are in high demand and he gets booked up pretty quickly!! Easier thing to do is go to his website and make the booking, usually calls to confirm the booking and price. Good luck!

I was very impressed with their approach - very focused and methodical - received a detailed report complete with photos, and was able to reach them to discuss any issues listed that I had a question about. I was the buyer - the seller was impressed as well and mentioned he hopes to use Scotland Yard to inspect contractor's work prior to selling again. Many thanks!

I found Scotland Yard Home Inspections via Angie's LIst and further reviewed his credentials on Yelp. Gerald came on a Saturday (it was easy to set up an appointment via his website) on time and with an assistant and thoroughly inspected the home. While he brought up a lot of issues, he also gave us great advice on what mattered and what didn't which we used to make sure the seller made all the fixes required. When there was an issue that the seller offered credit instead, I followed up w/ a call to Gerald and he told me the possibilities on why a simple fix might not work. Instead of anything sinister from the seller side, it turns out that the part had to be ordered and the seller didn't think he would get the part in time for the close. Anyway, I would glad recommend Gerald to my family and friends.

Gerald stopped by this week to inspect a house we were considering purchasing. This is the second house inspection Gerald has done for us this fall and as with last time, I cannot say enough about how thorough, helpful and patient Gerald was. If you're like us, you don't know too much about houses - Gerald's extremely detailed reports are easy to understand, and Gerald makes himself freely available (even if you're calling in the evening or first thing in the morning) to explain anything that you might have questions about. If there is something to review in the house you can rest assured Gerald WILL find it - on both of our houses, Gerald found nooks and crannies on the house that I wasn't even aware existed. Each time he flagged an issue, it turned out to be something we really wanted to know about. Gerald is officially on our Christmas card list! Amazing.

Extremely pleased with the responsiveness and service we received from Gerald. Gerald was prompt, easy to work with on scheduling, and extraordinarily thorough. There was not a place in the house that Gerald did not go - and then took me up to review several things he wanted me to see, including climbing up his ladder onto the roof. The report he provided us was fast and very thorough. We would ABSOLUTELY hire Gerald anytime again in the future.

Gerald and his assistant were fantastic. They had already showed up early for a Sunday morning appointment and were already working by the time we got there. They took their time with each part of the house. And they gave a very detailed report. The report provided a lot of guidance on next steps for us as we prepare to hire additional inspectors. We appreciate Gerald's friendliness and professionalism.

Great. Gerald was extremely helpful on very short notice, correctly estimating the age of the home from three amateur shots of the attic roof structure and making time within 24 hours to come out in person and provide a review and guidance on a method to gain access to an HVAC unit repair slot that is blocked by a pre-existing attic 2x4. Cheerful, responsive and clearly knowledgeable.

Gerald is amazing! I was so afraid of the inspection portion of my home purchase. Last time I bought a house, my realtor recommended someone and they gave the home glowing reviews (because it benefited the realtor). After escrow, everything that could go wrong, did. I wound up selling the house because things got so bad (think Money Pit the Movie). I was careful to find the best possible inspector this time around. Gerald went over the home with a fine tooth comb. He gave me an honest assessment of the home and educated me along the way. Because of Gerald and his expertise, I went into my home purchase with my eyes wide open this time. He armed me with information for my negotiation. I was credited from the seller $10k based on the report. It was the best money spent so far. He was on-time, super professional, sent a report to me that was over 70 pages within 24 hours of the inspection. I really felt I had the best inspector money could buy. Yes, you can find inspectors for a little less, but on the biggest purchase of your life, is it worth saving a few bucks, when Gerald can save you thousands and thousands? Do yourself a favor and hire Gerald. You will have no regrets.

Gerald did an inspection on a home that we are in the process of buying and we could not be happier. He is extremely thorough, reliable and punctual. He had great recommendations for termite and sewer inspection as well and they were just as thorough and professional as he is. Great advice, great professionalism and we would hire him to inspect any home in the future.

We would, most definitely, use Gerald again and plan to on future investment properties that we purchase. He sent us the full and detailed inspection report along with pictures within 24 hours and we couldn't be more satisfied with the report. 

Gerald is like having a best friend who knows a lot homes, inspecting your home. He genuinely cares about the people he works for. I called Gerald on short notice and show he had amazing reviews on Angies and Yelp. I had another Inspector scheduled and quickly changed my mind after I talked to Gerald over the phone.... Since using Gerald's service we have had 2 issues our furnace and some plumbing issues but Gerald being an amazing friend and business owner has said he will help resolve these issues. This is the type of quality you want in your corner!

DISCLOSURE: I am posting this review for my brother as he is not an Angie's List Member, but we found this service provider through Angie's List. As luck would have it I went into escrow on the Friday of a holiday weekend. I immediately reached out to Gerald of SCOTLAND YARD home inspections and he took the time to explain his services and rates. I could not wait until Tuesday of the following week as I had a limited number of days before needing to release my inspection contingency. Therefore, I opted to pay a nominal amount more for a weekend inspection and we set it up for Memorial Day. Gerald brings an assistant out with him and his assistant truly does assist. They arrived early and immediately got to work. The single family home I was having him inspect was older (originally built in the early 1950’s) and was approximately 1,300 sq. ft. Given the age of the home, it was a little more expensive than what is listed on his website, but his website does indicate that homes before a certain date will cost more. Gerald and his assistant spent just under three (3) hours doing their detailed general inspection and then a bit more time walking me & my realtor through some of his findings which took us to just over the 3-hour mark. Gerald said I would have his detailed inspection report (with photos) in 24-48 hours. Well, I received in it in less than 24-hours! It was 57-pages broken down by area/room/item and contained photos as well as a summary section of any needed/recommended items. Gerald did exactly what I wanted him to do, which was not to sugar coat anything. I wanted to know anything/everything that was wrong or potentially wrong as to avoid any surprises after escrow closes. While Gerald is a general inspector and a contractor, there were findings where he suggested that I bring in specialists to do their own inspections and/or to price out some of the recommended items so that I could better determine if I wanted to proceed with this purchase or what was within reason to go back to the seller on for a credit to repair. Every situation is different and everyone has different comfort levels, but ultimately, I brought the following in based upon Gerald and/or my realtor’s suggestions: HVAC, roofer, sewer line, electrician, chimney, & termite. After sending the report, Gerald called to let me know he sent it and to confirm I received it. At that time, he welcomed & encouraged me to call him with any questions/concerns. I did so on a couple of occasions and he was quick to respond and told me not to hesitate to reach out again should I have additional questions. I was very happy with Gerald and his services. I would wholeheartedly recommend Gerald and use his services again. While his report was extremely helpful and easy for me to follow, some of the specialists that came out after him had said that they wished he had taken a few extra minutes to describe exactly what area each photo pertained to. For example, when looking at a photo of water damage in the attic, it would have helped them to know exactly which room the spot was over. You might find people that are less expensive, but this was not an area where I was looking to cut costs and save a few bucks. This was an investment and something that would ultimately give me peace of mind knowing what I was potentially purchasing. Everything made sense and is what Gerald of SCOTLAND YARD represented he would do. He is a man of his word and a good guy. His assistant was also great. Gerald of SCOTLAND YARD exceeded my expectations. At this point in time, I would highly recommend Gerald of SCOTLAND YARD.

When I contacted Scotland Yeard for the inspection, I was so stressed from a difficult situation that resulted from shoddy work on the roof. Because I couldn't see the roof for myself, I knew I was at a disadvantage and needed to find the best person possible to do the work and document the findings. Gerald McMahon showed up on time, he read correspondence I had and listened patiently. He carefully looked at every problem area and took photos as he went along. So much of the stress was just realizing that I was totally lacking in knowledge and ability needed to ***** the problem. He is totally capable, so energetic and really good at communicating. He came back a third time just to accompany the consultant who was hired by the other party. And afterward, he was so very helpful explaining everything to me. Scotland Yard's service was worth at least 3X what they charged me. 

Not sure where to begin with this review other than to say Scotland Yard Home Inspections has to be the most incompetent inspection company I've ever dealt with in my many home buying experiences. Here is just a partial list of the things that should have never been given a stamp of approval let alone pass an inspection: 6 doors didn't operate properly; some didn't stay closed when shut, others didn't lock properly, the water pressure in 4 separate areas of the house was very poor, second story AC didn't work properly, AC in the wine cellar was never even hooked up, kitchen SINK fixtures were on backwards, 2 windows didn't operate properly, and, 3 showers had issues; 1 had missing tiles, 2 had leaks at the top of the shower head that were so bad they poured over shower door and on to the floor. I think it goes without saying that I would NEVER recommend using this company. Sadly, I'm now fearful to use Angie's List recommendations.
