We have an old house with hardwood floors that had been worn down over time. The floors in some rooms are actually carved (to look like plank, and with stars, moons and other figures carved into them. I had several companies bid on the job, all of them highly rated on Anglies List. I found M.D. Hardwood Floors on a local internet search, and I am so glad I used them. Alberto came in, took one look at the floors, and advised me not to refinish but rather to buff and reseal, once with sealer/stain and a second coat of clear polyurethane, in order to protect the original character of the floors. I had had another room refinished earlier, and the company (highly rated) did a great job of refinishing, but I had to admit that they made the floor look modern, which was not really true to the character of a house that was 90 years old. MD Hardwood gave us a great quote, and I took the chance on them. I'm so glad that I did. He did an amazing job! The detail of the old floors has been respected and preserved. The dark color is gorgeous, and they have a lovely satin finish that makes the rooms just glow. I'm thrilled with the work and cannot recommend Alberto and his crew highly enough. His company is small and works primarily by word of mouth. Most importantly, Alberto has a deep understanding of the details of hardwoods and how to finish them.
Description of Work: Alberto refinished hardwood floors in four rooms of our older home, which was custom built in 1929 by Louis Steinhauser, a curious builder/artist/architect whose work can be classified somewhere between Storybook Style and Arts and Crafts.
