Was unable to find listing for Davis Roofing at this time, so I ended up using a different company and getting a roof that leaked first time it rained that I have since had repaired by another roofer.
If I had found listing for Davis Roofing in 2012, I would have asked them to do the new roof as I was very pleased with their work in 1995 and recommended them to neighbors back then.
The workers were the scuzziest looking characters we had ever seen. Needless to say, there was no clean shirt with the company logo on it. Now I realize that roofing is not a tidy job... workers get dirty... filthy even, but these men showed up looking filthy. There were a few areas in the overhang, over the windows that needed replacement boards where there was rotted wood. Whenever I would check the area after it was completed, I found the wood they used to replace the rotted wood looked like it had been used, charred and pretty much as rotten as the wood they were replacing. We expected new, clean wood to be used. I saw this in several places. When I tried to explain to the foreman that this was not acceptable, he had difficulty understanding me. So we had to call Kim to come to the house and see for himself and act as interpreter for us. The cruddy wood was replaced with new wood. There were a few occasions when we had to ask Kim to come to the house to correct a situation. Each time, it was getting longer for him to respond; clearly giving the impression that he was avoiding us. What concerned us was if we found problems with their work that we could see... what was going on overhead on the rest of the roof that we couldn't see? Who knows the condition the plywood that they used. The workmanship that we could actually see did not inspire confidence.
As for clean-up each day... that was a joke. Every night my husband would look over the work that had been done... picking up nails, wood and shingle scraps as well as garbage tossed in the bushes. They would leave their hot-plate (for preparing lunch) on top of a table in the middle of the patio. Every day it was something else, even after voicing our concern.
Needless to say, they completed the job. The very next day there was a very light rain. The rain water leaked into the dining room exactly where it did before. Kim brought his foreman out and he repaired it immediately and the leak stopped.
What I found interesting was... that was the only place the roof was leaking. In my first discussion with Kim, I told him that was the only leak. Kim said that it impossible to tell where the source of the water is coming from since water travels...So, we re-roofed the entire house. So how is it that they knew exactly where to fix the leak THIS time?
We don't think Kim was forthcoming with what we were to expect... with their workers and their quality. I am also suspicious that these were day laborers doing the work. We would never refer this company to anyone. Yeah... we got a new roof... but it sure wasn't worth the aggravation.
We are just posting this review now because we just joined Angie's List. We are about to do some more renovations on our home and we do not want to have the same experience. This site is such a terrific source of information. Thank you, thank you Angie!!!
