FLOWERS BY PICCOLO

I called to order the orchid corsage and boutonniere(for the birthday couple) at Piccolo since it was the resident florist at the hotel where the 90th birthday party was held.
I assume the owner (sorry forgot his name) answered the phone and took the order.  I had called a few weeks ahead of time to make sure the order would go without a hitch.
The flowers were ready on the day of the party.  They were kind enough to wait for us, since our plane was delayed and we got in almost at their hour of closing.  I called ahead.

About a week before the event, a woman called to verify the order and discuss the flowers.  I sought advice from this professional.  I suggested a pink or yellow orchid for the 90 y.o. birthday girl.  She suggested a nice pink orchid she knew.  I trusted the decision.

In retrospect, I should have discussed the order more in detail.  I paid about $85 for the orchid corsage, which is a lot, but I thought for the service, convenience (we're out of town), and quality, it was worth it.  The orchid itself was gorgeous and unique, but it was only 1 single phaneonopsis-type orchid!  There was no real art in the corsage other than picking the flower.  Had the flower been quite large and gorgeous it would have been fine.  The flower didn't even hold up after all the hugging the birthday girl did that evening.  It was discarded as a limp thing at the end of the night.  We should have ordered a wrist corsage instead, but that was my chosing.

The boutonniere was nice, but again, the sleek esthetic of this florist was too modern and minimalist for me.
I love modern/minimalist/monotone in general, but with flowers, you need to have a certain "wow, gorgeous" je ne sais quoi reaction, especially at the price I paid!  The initial customer service was excellent. The communication could have been better at finalization. 
The product, while elegant, was missing something.
