The overall work performed was poor, in large part due to inadequate preparation. Multiple areas of stucco peeled after painting, His estimate included glazing of windows, which was done on part of only one window. The other windows, he said, didn't need reglazing. He painted over areas that had not been prepped at all, creating a thick, sloppy appearance. The front door and shutters were painted the wrong color, because he lost the paint sample I gave him to match, so he just guessed at the color. He repainted the door and shutters with the correct color, but the shutters were painted while attached to the house, leaving black paint on the window frame and siding. The sliding gate across the driveway was to be painted with semi-gloss to match the front siding. He used flat paint instead, then repainted the gate after the mistake was pointed out to him. In multiple areas, drips are seen and blistering of paint is evident. Sanding on one large window frame was severe in one area, creating a gap between the edge of the screen and window frame.
Other concerns included inadequate clean up at the end of each day. One day, an exposed razor blade was found in the driveway next to the supplies and equipment that he left every night. Although our children are now teenagers, we also have pets which had access to his storage area. He also stored some of his equipment in our garage, which was already full, making access to our things more difficult. Steve used strips of cardboard to shield windows, concrete, etc. from paint, instead of plastic and tape. These paint-stained strips of cardboard were left around the property in plants and landscaping. Paint chips were also left in planters. Plants were stepped on, crushed, painted, and a yard ornament was bent. Paint was left on window glass, and one window screen was torn after he removed the screens and left them in the bushes.
Steve is a friendly person who worked well with others on site. He repainted the areas that we brought to his attention. This job took too long, and the quality control was left up to me to discover.
"I'm not pleased with the report, I tried my best to do them a great job. I did actually flip the scheduled time of another job to accommodate their schedule because she did want it done by a certain time, which it eventually was. It was unfortunate for them and me that I had to serve for 3 weeks at the Criminal Courts Building, in LA. It was hard on my family as well as I only made $200 for my time. I did apologize many times to them for the inconvenience, but to no avail. They suggested I work on Sundays and after Jury hours. If you've served on a jury it's not a picnic and getting back to town and starting to work at 5 o'clock in the afternoon, was just to much to ask for. I did to the best of my ability keep the project on time and did finish it before her deadline. I've been in the painting business for over 35 years, and I have dealt with hundreds of customers, some that are wonderful and also difficult people. I can work with difficult people too. These people were extremely difficult. You don't stay as busy as I do doing 'crappy' work. If you dissect Member's comments there is a thread of truth to what she has said, but it was all minutia. In all paint jobs there's what you call a 'punch list', there were some corrections made. It's my job to please customer's, but the Pinedo's were very short on patience. The work was done in a professional like manor that has been acceptable to almost all of my clients, whom I'd like to call friends. Most of my work is from people that have used my service many times over. I don't have to advertise. Part of the problem with Angie's List is that a Contractor cannot screen his clients. I'm at a disadvantage with Member's critique. I'm a Christian man and will not say any more than what is appropriate for a rebuttal, however I have not met many people quite like them professionally or personally. If you're a Contractor don't work for them."
