"We installed this solar electric system using micro-inverters by SolarBridge, a firm that was subsequently acquired by SunPower Corporation. SunPower had recently simply ceased providing the monitoring device, called a "power manager," a proprietary product. Although the performance monitor had failed, we had, in many service calls, shown that the system itself was still producing power. We finally located, purchased & installed the device that would 'pair' with the solar panels. During these few months without the monitor, the system continued to produce power, but it has proven to us once again that we must be careful in our choices of vendor, for our own sake and that of our customers. There is not much to add, other than to say that we take our customers' needs seriously and follow through to the best of our ability. In this case, support for this device evaporated and it took us many weeks to locate one from a third party. Over this period communications became strained and misunderstandings resulted because I was not able to respond quickly enough."
All work was done as promised. Showed up on time and cleaned up afterwards. Ameco coordinated with our roofing contractor so he could insure everything was water tight.
The system has performed as promised. I have yet to pay for electricity and hopefully will receive cash back at the end of a year.
The installation went smoothly. Amoco worked with my roofers who were installing a roof at the same time. Workers showed up on time. Cleaned up afterwards. I was completely satisfied.
Their service turned out beautifully. Their service was very good. The man in charge of the installation came to our house and explained the details of it very clearly. We knew exactly what we were getting. He provided a very good explanation of its impact on our electric bill and offered to help us read our next electric bill so we would understand the billing. The people who installed it, including the person who was in charge of that, was very capable. The electrical work was done beautifully and very neatly with no mess or anything. It looks great and was done really very well. All of the inspectors thought so. They did it just when they said they were going to do it. They showed up early in them morning and were finished by late in the afternoon, I think. They were competitive, but we not the last expensive way to go. It was a reasonable price for the quality of the work.
Ameco also provides cost/benefit analysis of the system. I was a bit skeptical of that since it assumed a 6% annual increase in the price of electricity. I ran my own ROI assuming 3% annual price increases and still decided to proceed. Recently we received information from SCE that this year's price increase will be 8%!
The installation went very smoothly. The installation crew is very polite and professional and were a pleasure to have around. They were very careful on our roof and the install was completed in 2 days. I was pleased with the quality of the work done. We needed a few more days to get the inspections and then several weeks before SCE gave us the permission to operate letter. This is not an undertaking for the impatient. We started the process at the end of February, signed a contract on March 7 and turned on the system in Mid May.
The only aspect of working with Ameco I didn't like was the "Permits and Fees" section. The wording here is somewhat open and I was surprised by a $350 bill to an engineering firm. The contract estimated these fees but the actual fees came in about $120 higher. That said, our final invoice was actually slightly less than what was stated in the contract. i don't want to go into details but it boils down to generosity on the part of Ameco. I would just encourage you to ask questions about this section and understand that you're paying for more than building and fire inspections and fees here.
We're in the second month of operation and the system is exceeding my expectations. May and June are of course ideal months for solar energy production. Our SCE estimate during the May billing cycle after three days with no solar was for a $300 bill. At end end of the month the actual billed amount was $2.28. Not bad for a system designed for 57% of our energy needs. Many things conspired to make May an exceptional month including cooler weather after the start of the month and very little cloud cover.
