Went okay, but destroyed 3-way wiring that was previously working in the kitchen and then refused to try and fix the switch wiring unless I paid him $120/hour to diagnose the issues caused by his work. Would not hire again. There are plenty of other electricians in the area, and who charge for less.

"Home owner had removed the existing light before we arrived. Was unable to verify that the switching actually work prior to his removal of the light. Was not told of the three way problem until after the new lights was installed. When the homeowner was told that the repair would add additional time/labor to the job he said he didn't need the three way to work any way. Then a month later he called and said he had called in another electrician but he couldn't fix it either, so he wanted me to come back and expected the repair to be NO CHARGE."

Mr. Keith and his son came to install a lighted fan in one of my bedrooms. I had attempted to install the unit myself but when I took down the original light fixture I discovered that the wiring had been charred. Upon investigation by Tom we found out that the wiring had been charred by someone, prior to my owning the house, had used an inappropriate blub wattage. So after all that the light fixture was installed and is working great.

My main concern is not to intentionally bash him as a person but my intention is to protect whoever goes on Angie's List to beware of this fellow. I feel that he's seen us as vulnerable and took advantage in a big way of our situation. I'm glad that we wised up before we got in too thick with him. We were redoing our condo. We were actually putting everything out and redoing everything. We hired this fellow for the electrical part and right from the start, he was charging us $10,500 up to $12,000 to do a 1300 square foot condo and didn't blink an eye. He came in acting as a sheep. He took us. He knew what he was doing. We have another electrician in there now doing the services and he's charging $5,000. There's no comparison with the prices and also this Tom Keith on Angie's List is rated high with almost A+ and I don't understand that. We live in Arkansas and so we happen to deal with long distance. He also has a saying there on Angie's list that someone actually who lives out of state had a contact with him, said he was good and honest and took care of him and he was completely so far out of town because he did live in another state so that was so positive for him too. There were no bad words or anything. We just cut it clean and said we're going to put things on hold, we're not going to do the electricity right now, we're just backing off and that's how we left with him but he didn't even actually start work yet. He may have been there for a short day on a day to look at things and he had also even cut holes in the walls which I know electricians have to do that to do some of their stuff but he did unnecessary damage to some of the walls that weren't called for and then when we told him that we're going to hold this for now and we'll just probably start back in December because we didn't want to say, "You're fired. Get out of our house." He sent us a bill for what he did and he's charging us $650 for one day. He said it was an 8-hour day and he wasn't even there that long and did unnecessary damage to our condo. I want to do right. If they're an honest person I want to pay for the service that he did do. I do know that he did come out and he took his time to examine the situation and see what he needed to do and he capped off a gas line. He did a little bit. He did pay for a permit so he did cancel that but he was out like $20-something so we sent a check for that also because I don't feel right if I didn't. Another check I gave him $200 and I think that is way more than fair for what the supposedly work that he did do. He was charging us $650 but we did not pay that so I don't know where this is going to take us. I don't know if we'll take that to court but I really hope we don't. Please be very cautious of anyone that considers to contact him. Don't. Stay clear.

"The actual time spent on this project was 11 hrs.. including prep time , buying materials and pulling permits. Total cost to me for the materials and permit, at the, was $968.72. When they said they wanted to put things on hold and they did not explain why, I agreed to return all the materials, cancel the permit and button everything up, which took even more time. They did not inform me of their reservations at any time during our numerous phone conversations over the course of 2 weeks of discussing the project. I agreed to not charge them anything other that the actual hrs. spent in the condo, which was $650.00 and they agree to this by phone in a 45 min. conversation. The bid of 10,500 to 12,000 included all materials including 16 LED ($65.00 each ) can lights all new switches and outlets , moving existing switches to new locations, demolition of some leftover structural material from the drop ceiling that their handyman didn't want to touch because of live wires running thru them, capping off a gas line hanging from the ceiling, upgrading their old Zinsco electrical panel to a new panel that was up to code with Arc Fault and GFCI breakers which are $44.00 dollars each (in a different location because it was in the way of the washer and dryer), installation of 3 new ceiling fans and 2 new bath fans and then patch, repair and texture all sheet rock that needed to be removed in order to accommodate all the new wiring that had to be done. Total cost of materials was in the range of $3500.00 to $4500.00 not including the change orders that they were calling for. So if another electrician was doing the job for 5k they did not include materials. I have the documentation to verify all they agreed to so they will not be able to refute my claims in court."

All the work was performed professionaly and promptly. At times, Tom brought in his son or another electrician to help. The premises were always left clean. Tom charged a very fair fee. In addition, Tom has a network of colleagues in other service industries who he has recommended to perform other work in our house. We have used several of these contacts who also provide very good services. Tom is a great guy!!

I'll start by saying that this was a pretty tough job - I knew it before I called Tom Keith. In particular, the living room fan was to be installed on a 15-foot vaulted ceiling in a location where no previous light fixture was (so no electricity already there), and with no attic access. I wasn't even sure it could be done.
I've used Angie's List in the past, so trusted the reviews to be accurate and actually only called Tom Keith (because he had the most and best reviews). He was 15 minutes early for the initial evaluation and bid. He came up with a price between $900 and $1100 - which was under the number I had in mind ($1200) - so agreed to it right there and then. A week or so later he was out, with his son Brian there to help, again, on-time.
The installation seemed like it was a challenge. Besides the living room fan being in gnarly, nearly unaccessible location, it turned out that the light switches in the guest bedrooms butted up against a major support beam, requiring access ports to be cut within the closet so that they could drill into the light switch cavities from the back-side. Needless to say, this was an unexpected. Fortunately, once they got everything installed, they took care of patching the holes and re-texturing - something apparently not all electricians are always willing to do.
Another example of frustrating circumstances was that two of the fans I got had screws drilled so tightly on the light-kit covers that they were impossible to remove, so, a job that may have been complete-able in one day, required them to come back out a week or so later after I had replacement mechanisms sent to my house (from the manufacturer).
In the end, the fans all got installed, and to my pleasant surprise, within the budget he had said, though at the higher end, $1100. I felt this was fair given all the pain-in-the-a** things that I witnessed them having to go through (there were even more that I didn't list here). I give Tom Keith an overall A-rating. The only B's I gave were for price (because I can't confirm that his price really was the best, he was the only estimate I got) and for professionalism, because throughout all the inconveniences on this job, they kept hollering for me to come see the issues they were having. After awhile I started to feel like and quot;I get it, this is a tough job... that's why I hired professional electriciansand quot;.
To their defense, though, they really did have to bend over backwards to get these d*** fans installed. And their communication, timeliness, and overall work ethic were top-notch. The fans function flawlessly. I'd recommend Tom Keith to my friends, and will be calling him back out to do some recessed lighting in my kitchen within the next year or two.

Tom's seems to be a great guy. Responded an hour after I left a message and arrived later that morning. Friendly and seems to like to have you stand around and have him explain what he's doing. Learned a few things. I would definitely hire him again. Overall a great experience.

From the first phone call through the completed work, Tom was extremely professional, promptly returned phone calls, and even scheduled our appointment on a Saturday (at no additional weekend rates) due to the urgency of our situation. I wish all interactions with contractors or work to be done would be of the quality that Tom Keith provided to us! If you have a need for an electrical contractor Tom Keith should be your man! We will definitely use him for all of our commercial and residential needs going forward!

My primary residence is in Alaska. Knowing I had potentially extensive and expensive electrical concerns in our home in Paradise, I did what many people do; I searched the Yellow pages looking for a solution. This proved frustrating. After viewing TV ads for Angie's List, I elected to investigate them and see what it was all about. As the time for me to make some decisions grew closer, I finally joined. As expected, the reviews for electrical contractors was limited ( given the size of the community ) I felt comfortable contacting Tom Keith. I sent Tom a brief email explaining my situation, and within a few moments he responded ( it was in the evening if anyone is wondering ). We arranged for a date and time to meet upon my return to Paradise in a few weeks. On the prearranged date and time, Tom showed up. We discussed my problems, and my proposed solutions gained from other local electrical contractors.Tom patiently told me he would be willing to do the work, and outlined the Town and PGand E involvement, including permits, inspections, and potential time frames if all went well. He then informed me that although he would be willing to do the work, he did not think
it was necessary. After a brief explanation, he took off, returning about 30 minutes later with his solution in hand. He located a part that he found in his shop that had not been manufactured in years. He installed the part, moved wires around, then located the short the started my problems in the laundry room. After that, he went outside to my airconditioner/heater unit and and quot;tinkered aroundand quot; locating a problem he did not have the expertise to handle. By this time I was so impressed with Tom's honesty and integrity that I asked if he could recommend someone to look at the unit. Tom placed a call, described the situation, and that afternoon my airconditioner/heater was inspected a parts ordered.
The bottom line; because of Tom's strong work ethics, the electrical repairs I budgeted a few thousand dollars and 7-10 days for were resolved for $137.50 and a few hours. I have to ask---how many contractors would take the and quot;high roadand quot; when given the opportunity to make money?
As a side note: while talking with Tom, I learned that he and a group of local contractors, and other real estate professionals, have formed a group, wherein they meet, police each other, and expel those who do not live up to thier standards of professionalism and customer satisfaction. Would I call upon Tom and professionals he refered me to? WITHIN A HEARTBEAT11

Installation of ceiling fans in two bedrooms. Needed to drill into the ceiling and run electrical from the fan to the wall switch. Tom also changed the lighting setup in a bathroom by changing the location of the existing light and added another box for an additional light. Tom explained exactly he would need to do to achieve the results we wanted and gave us an estimate of time and cost. He did an excellent job, and was able to complete the work keeping within his estimate.

Visited 3x; estimate, ceiling fan plus outdoors and bathroom fan. Arrived punctually and left areas very clean. Extremely knowledgeable, especially pertaining to wiring in older homes (ours is 45 years old). Helped us determine most effective and economical option for our situation.
