In July 2012, we asked the Telephone Man to run telephone lines from the AT&T box to inside the house to 4 different locations. The technician recommended running a single line and splice off to the jacks in different locations. I was concerned about this, as I had been cautioned against this method due to the increased possibility of shorts. The technician reassured me that with the recommended method this would not be a problem. I stressed the need for reliability, as I telecoomute from home. Again, I was reassured.
For the last several days we have experienced an interruption of our phone and DSL service. We contacted AT&T who came out today and checked the line to the house and found no problem. Further investigation by AT&T revealed a short somewhere within the lines in the house.
I contacted the Telephone Man to relay this information and request that they come out as soon as possible, as the issue appears to be related to the work done in July. The soonest available appointment is Monday (today is Wednesday). The explanation was a sick employee. After speaking with Allan, the owner, I was told the soonest they could come is on Friday. He stated that he understood my situation, but it was the best he could do. I reiterated to Allan that I work from home, and needed a sooner appointment. I also reminded him that I questioned the method of installation in July, as my phone and DSL access is crucial. This yielded no change in response.
