Auto Service, Air Conditioning - Auto
I called them from a list of possible service providers, more or less at random. The owner answered the phone. My problem was with the (lack of) air conditioning in my car. I told him I had bought the car used in a private sale and that the previous owner had said their mechanic had told them it was the compressor. The Skyway Auto Tune owner said, and quot;Let us decide that. If it is, we'll let you know and advise you on costs before we proceed. However, it might be something much less expensive. There are a number of easy to fix, low cost things that can go wrong, and we'll look at all of those.and quot;
Ooooh! Good answer! That one answer was enough for me to decide that this was the right mechanic for me.
I still wanted to be prepared if the cost was going to be high, so I waited two weeks until I had the money in hand for an expensive repair. The night before I was going to take the car in, the and quot;check engineand quot; light came on, so when I drove in, I mentioned that and asked if they would check it out, too. I spoke to one of the hired mechanics this time and he repeated what the owner had said about checking the easy and low cost failure points first. I asked him how long it would be before they knew anything conclusive. He said to check back with him in about an hour.
When I returned an hour later, he said the car was ready for me. He said the freon was gone, so they recharged the system and added dye to the freon so that if there was a leak, they would be able to see it with a black light. As soon as they put the freon in, the compressor began running and the system began putting out cold air. The check engine diagnostics said that the car had misfired recently. They asked if I recalled such an event. I said, and quot;No,and quot; and they said, and quot;We thought so. It didn't misfire on us at all during testing. If it is misfiring, it is most likely electrical, like the spark plug cables. If the light comes back on, bring it back and we'll check for electrical shorts.and quot; They also said that if the air stopped blowing cold, to bring it back and they would see if there were any telltale dye imprints on the engine compartment that would indicate where small leaks might be.
They had quoted me a 1 hour labor charge. When they brought me the invoice for signing and paying, they had charged only 1/2 hour labor plus the cost of the freon.
Within two hours, the air conditioning was getting warm, so I took it back that same afternoon. They quickly found two leaks. The leaks were behind the engine, next to the firewall and motor mounts and would need to be ordered to be replaced. I left the car overnight. They gave me a ride home. The next day they called and asked if I needed to be picked up because the car was ready. They had had to release the engine from the motor mounts and move it slightly to get the lines out and the new ones installed which amounted to 3 hours of labor, plus parts. They obviously had to recharge the freon again also, but they did not charge me for more freon!
Total cost between the two days: $485, most of that involving the motor mounts. Air conditioning runs perfectly (and this summer has started out H-O-T ! The check engine light has not come back on, and I'm a happy driver.
I highly recommend Skyway Auto Tune for their honesty and integrity, their knowledge and skills, and their more than fair pricing. Five stars all around!

Auto Service
I've used this Business a few times and found Bill very honest about what really needs to be done. I have an engine light that stays on and since Bill knows money is tight for me, He explained it involves the gas tank it will be costly but won't affect the operation of my car so I can wait. He did nicely hint at me getting rid of my Kia, but that's not an option, so he fixes it when needed. Like most Automotive places the waiting room isn't very nice, but who really gets to use those most times?!

They performed a lot of work on our car and restored it. They are very nice, and we feel very honest about the situation. Price included having to send parts to the machine shop for repairs.
I recommend Skyway Auto-tune for non-hybrid cars.
