The rooms in the maternity ward are shared so guests cannot stay overnight to assist. I also found that some of the nurses tried to make me feel guilty if I wanted to send the baby to the nursery so I could recover. The food at the hospital is not very good but you can send your guests accross the street to get food for you.

I was there to deliver my baby. Excellent high risk OBs (perinatologists) who gave me expert care and exercised great judgment under difficult circumstances. The docs there are highly trained and leaders in their field. Because the NICU is also at the hospital (right next to the delivery rooms), our baby was cared for immediately by top-class neonatalogists. What I find less attractive are: 1) the facilities are quite old, 2) the nursing staff is not friendly in general (although there were some exceptions), 3) dealing with residents, esp. first year interns, who think they know more than they do, and 4) the food is awful.

I had a high risk pregnancy and the perinatologists (particularly Dr. Lyell, Dr. El-Sayed and Dr. Chueh) Stanford/the Lucille Packard Hosp gave me excellent care, ensuring the safe delivery of my baby.
