My mother just bought her first house. So as a gift to her I had the whole interior painted with colors she picked. I got an estimate from this company for $2400. I got another estimate from another company for $2600 and it was twice the work this company offered. The owner said he would match their price and do the same amount of work. I liked this guy because he came across as passionate. He told me he would spend time with us and help pick out samples and put it on the wall. He said even if it takes 30 colors so be it. I thought he loved his line of work and that he saw my vision. I hired him and signed a contract and thats when the nightmare began. Apon signing the contract he promised to meet with us the week before and pick out paint samples. He never met with us until the day that he was to start the job. He came and made me go with him to home depot to buy all the painting suplys to "show me how costly it is". After being there for over 2 hours, we got back to the house and he had his "worker" put the samples on the wall. I was then pressured into picking the colors that day because he wanted the job done in 3 days. Yes! A whole house in 3 days. He proceeded to go on to tell me that he cant have his "workers" standing around getting paid by the hour while I pick paint colors. He left and his worker was preping the house. His worker then warns me that his boss told him they need to get this done in 3 days. That he placed a low bid and we didnt pay for A+ service. Then he went on to tell me how he only gets paid $140 a day. So anyways I pick the colors and they start the job. The day they start he is calling me every 5 minutes saying " i didnt see this when I looked at the house but its going to have to be fixed and it will cost extra". Mind you that he was at the house twice and saw everything. Me and my mom even pointed out things we wanted fixed and all we got was "no problem". Well now it was going to cost me. So day two comes and im starting to see their sloppy work. Paint was everywhere. All over my tile and GREY CARPET! He promised me it would be cleaned up and the house would look brand new. He called me and asked what do you want us to do with the mirrors in the living room. I told them they have to come down and the wall behind them has to be painted. Mind you these mirrors arent that big and are strips and squares not huge full mirrors. He then tells me its going to cost me extra to take them down because it will take his workers 2-3 hours to remove them. I told him forget it. I later came to the house to lock up for the day and saw they had painted over staples in the wall and nails. They didnt even bother to remove them. There also was little holes that I was told would be filled that was just painted over. I brought this to his attention and he said they would be fixed. He wasnt happy and was angry that I pointed it out. Day 3 comes and the house isnt done. He calls me and ask if his workers can stay late and finish. I said yes. What I didnt expect was a sleepover. I showed up to lock my house up and set the alarm at 10pm at night, only to find the painters were still there. They told me they are working all night long and were not going home. I called the owner and he told me they have to stay there to get the job done and not to worry about my house. I was so angry! My mother hasnt even spent the night in her new house yet the painters were going to. Did I mention the air conditioner was on everyday on 60 and running. I had to turn it off on more than one occasion because the house was freezing. So day 4 and the house isnt done. The owner calls and says he will be done in two hours and that he will call me. I wait around 3 hours and get no call. Then I call him and tell him I need to go run some errands and will be back later since I have to be at work at 6pm. Mind you at this time it was 3:30pm. He went off. He started telling me I couldnt go anywhere because they are almost done and his guys need to be paid. So I come to the house and guess what? Rooms still needed to be painted. Not to mention paint was everywhere and very sloppy. There was color on the white parts and patches were darker in some places then others. The nails and staples were gone but the holes were still there. The corners of the walls that were dinged up were painted over. It was obvious this was a rushed job. I spent over 3 hours pointing out flaws and watching him try and fix things. Later he tried to scrub the carpet to get the paint out which it never came out. B.T.W the paint is blue on grey carpet. I told him I would pay him $2600 and keep the $60 to clean the carpets. A week later we are moving stuff in and anytime anything touched the wall the paint would come right off. I called him but he didnt care. He told me that I need to not touch or rub the walls. He said if the paint comes off paint over it. Now I have to have the whole house repainted. A gift for Mom turned out to be a nightmare.
