D and L Roof Systems was contracted to replace the tar and gravel flat roof on my garage and two patios with foam roofing. They were able to begin the project almost immediately. Their process was alittle less formal than many companies. The work began on the scheduled date and the appropriate roofing permit was obtained. They removed the gravel on the roofs and bagged it up. They also tore out the decorative beams and the facia. David explained to me what was causing the problem with the beams and the facia and what he intended to do to ensure the problem did not recurr. He replaced the sheathing present with 3/4 inch plywood and extended it back to the second joist in the garage, screwing in the sheets to ensure the weight of the cantelevered portion would not cause the screws to pull out from the joists as the nails did with the original decking. He then copied the beam design on those beams that were to be replaced due to dry rot, and used brackets to support several of the beams on the joists to eliminate their tendency to sag as they were only toenailed into the cap plate of the garage. He replaced the nails used to orginally secure them with screws. All areas that were not to be sprayed with foam were taped off. The foam and a base coat were applied to the garage and front patio area. They removed the debris from the garage and front patio and took it to the dump. They used a blower to clean up the area daily. Then they moved to the rear patio. A problem was found on the back patio, as always happens with older homes. David provided me with alternative methods for solving the problems and worked with me to make the appropriate decisions. Damaged shiplap that was the original roof deck of the patio was replaced and 1/2 inch OSB was screwed over the top to provide better structure and sheathing on which to apply the foam. I had asked for David to save any tiles from the main house roof that were removed and saved if they were not to be replaced after the foam roof was completed. This was done with the intent to use the intact tiles to replace damaged ones on the tile roof. I was also able to take the gravel from the rear patio roof as it was bagged for disposal and use it in the driveway thus saving me from having to obtain additional gravel as planned. There are always cost overruns on construction but the entire job came in under my budget. David and his son, David, were both professional and easy to work with. They cleaned up the site and took care to protect the surrounding area from overspray of both the foam and the coatings. The job was a big one and they worked diligently until it was finished. They were also reasonable when I added a small project of covering over two sky lights on the front patio that were without glass and were preventing our enjoyment of that patio during rain. I highly recommend D and L Roof Systems and would, without hesitation, use their services again.
Description of Work: D & L Roof Systems was one of three companies I contacted via Angie's List to provide me with a proposal for replacing the tar and gravel flat roofs on my garage and two patios with foam roofing. I also requested each to include in the proposal repairing the decorative beams and the sagging facia board on the front of the garage. David Baretto the owner of D & L Roof Systems contacted me immediately via telephone and was the only contractor to address the beam and facia problem. He met with me on a Sunday and thoroughly addressed the current condition of my roofs and the beams and facia. He brought me a sample of the roofing material and a color palette from which to chose the color of the top coat. The other contractors declined to address the problems with the beams and facia although the sagging was directly related to how the roof deck had been contructed in the first place. As a result of David's willingness to solve the beams and facia problems, I hired them for the project.

Their bid was best out of three companies, and the work was very clean. The crew masked all necessary areas around my home, and cleaned up any debris at the end of each work day. They were very careful with the safety of my dogs in the yard and around the house.
Description of Work: They removed an old roof, including gravel, and applied a spray-foam roof on my flat-roofed house. This was then covered with a sealant coating and fine granules. This type of roof is especially useful for flat-roofed homes for insulation and to prevent pooling of moisture.
