My ten year old daughter has taken a few lessons from Jeff and she is picking up the ukulele with ease! Jeff is very good at breaking the information down so that it is accessible to a young learner. He has sent us practice pages and audiofiles to help with learning. She is even starting to learn to read music. He is both warm and funny and my introverted daughter feels very comfortable with him! I would highly recommend his skype lessons. I am amazed how quickly she is learning!

Doing lessons over skype really is a huge bonus because my work schedule changes every week and it keeps our lesson times very flexible. I had already been playing for about 15 years when we started up again, so our lessons are more intermediate-advanced. We generally focus on jazz standards and will spend a few lessons on each tune, covering comping, walking bass lines, soloing, chord melodies etc, but every once in a while, we will veer off and play around with some shred tunes to cover some different technique. Overall, the scheduling flexibility and Jeff's experience with a variety of different styles is what suits me. Would recommend him to anyone who is interested in learning guitar, or improving their range from the comfort of their own home.

It was great. Jeff really knows music and how to communicate his understanding. It didn't take me long to decide he could be a big help to me. So, I've been meeting with him (on Skype) once a week for over 6 months now and my playing has improved tremendously - as has my understanding of music. He is a marvelous teacher. One thing I really like is how incredibly attentive he is to my playing technique. Jeff watches how my fingers are working to shape chords and move from one to another, how I strum and with what fingers, what picking pattern I am using. If I am having problems, he provides exercises to help deal with them. If you want a strong foundation to build your playing on, Jeff will help you develop it.

I have been taking ukulele lessons from Jeffrey Thomas for nearly six months, and it has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Jeff is not only extremely knowledgeable, but he has a passion for teaching. There are many instructors who are good musicians, but are only mediocre teachers. Jeff is a gifted teacher, he has the ability to draw out, and nourish the musician in me. I expect to continue working with Jeff for the foreseeable future.

In my mid 50's I decided I needed to learn to play guitar. I was a little concerned about finding an instructor who could help a complete novice adult who, because of work schedules, didn't always have a lot of time to practice. I originally connected with Jeff through a recommendation at a local music store. After two months of in-store lessons I switched to Skype online lessons. I've been taking weekly lessons online for over 4 years now. The thing I appreciate the most is Jeff's flexibility in the lessons, adjusting to meet my needs at the time. Sometimes we play through songs, others we just focus on a chord change or building tempo. At various times I have hit a plateau and he has changed things around to help me work through it. Jeff will give you music theory if you want it, but it isn't an essential part of lessons if it doesn't interest you. A note about online lessons with Jeff. Online lessons are just like in-store, in-person lessons with a scheduled time and all, but just over Skype, This isn't a self-paced, recorded lesson. Jeff is there in real-time listening and watching my playing (posture, fingering, etc). It works so much better than I expected plus you get to avoid the hassles of traffic to and from a physical location. Keeping with the online presence, Jeff has a great web site (recently redesigned) with videos, tabs, and blog posts. Payments are made through PayPal ... couldn't be easier.

Jeff is an excellent teacher. Not only is he an outstanding musician, but he is able to communicate the theory and mechanics of new techniques I am learning, enabling me to grasp it immediately and work through the new technique. I started out taking lessons at our local music store, and eventually started lessons on Skype with him. The Skype lessons have been amazing! I no longer spend time packing up my guitar, driving to the music store, driving back after the lesson, and unpacking after the class. I turn on my computer, and am ready for the lesson in a matter of a few minutes. As a working professional, being able to save time is very important. His communication skills for techniques would be hard to surpass! I have taken lessons with him since 2010. I love being able to progress in my abilities to play music, and highly recommend Jeffrey Thomas to anyone interested in learning how to play the guitar. He offers one free lesson, which you can then judge for yourself his skills in music and communication!

I have taken weekly lessons from Jeff for several uninterrupted years. He was very helpful in getting me set up for Skype and PayPal which I had never used before. He is able to troubleshoot Skype problems when I have them. His email communications are prompt. He is flexible if I have to change a lesson time. The lessons feel “live” because his ears and eyes catch everything I’m doing. He wants to work on music that I like to play and listen to. He creates custom music versions and writes them down in a music "language" called tablature. His handwritten tablature is incredibly detailed and has all the information needed to know what the left and right hand should be doing. He is patient and encouraging when I’m not satisfied with my progress. He engaged my 6 year old grandson in about 10 seconds and had him strumming and counting in 5 minutes. His process: He walks me through learning the chords, picking, and strumming in an individual piece. Next we work on counting aloud while playing. Next we put it to the metronome. Next we work on musicality without counting or metronome. He helps me breakdown areas of difficulty into manageable segments. I truly enjoy his professional expertise in working with me, the amateur enthusiast. I enjoy learning with him.
