DIRECT TECH IS NOW DIRECT PROS LOCATED IN PALM DESERT? I bought my desktop PC 2 years ago from a friendly and professional group of IT professionals at Direct Tech of Palm Desert so when it was time for repairs I did the logical thing and returned to the same location (next to Casual Male and Outback Steakhouse). To my dismay I found a sign stating that they have moved to a new location and have changed the name to "DIRECT PROS" (located next to Olive Garden). The experience with the staff at Direct Pros was a complete 360 degree turn from the service from the fine fellows at Direct Tech. Can you clear up some confusion/ if you are the same company? The artists formerly known as DIRECT TECH, NOW DIRECT PROS? If you are not, please disregard this review. DIRECT PROS can not honestly call themselves anything PRO without a gasp from me and my circle of tech savy clients in the Desert. I run a marketing consultant firm working with top builders, brokers, designers and artists. My computer was having some trouble with the password which should open Window's desktop. I was quoted a 40 dollar repair to replace a password into my Windows desktop however was given the news my harddrive is dying and would eventually need replacement. They quoted the total repair at 350 dollars to replace the hard drive and get the computer up to operating conditions. That seemed reasonable, however I asked them to just get the password to the desktop working again and I would spend the remaining days backing up my files, and when the hard drive dies completely, bring it back for replacement, saving over 150 dollars from the original quote of 350.00. I was quoted 40 dollars for the repair. However...............When I arrived to pick up my computer, I was given the bill of $108.00. Not only was the repair only temporary (which eventually will result in a dead hard drive), agreeing to the 40 dollar temporary repair has now escalated to 108.00! As you can inagine, investing in a 108 dollar "band-aide" is foolish when facing the inevitable replacment of the computer's brain. I bit my upper lip and wrote them a check for the 108. A new "PRO" at the counter seemed to not only have unacceptable flaws with filling in a simple bill for repairs, he could not get the check scanner to scan my check for the 108! After an unprofessional phone conversation with management in my presence ("the customer is very upset and will take his business elsewhere, what do I do?") he seemed to have a great deal of trouble working a check scanner (check goes in....check comes out.... approved or declined, not rocket science). I was then given the damand for cash or credit for the repair. I had to make a second trip to the bank and return to pick up my computer with a terminal illness. This is not the kind of service record I remember with Direct Tech and surely it is a "veil of inevitable shame" that a licensed IT can not work the simple tasks the front counter entails. Direct Pro's? Direct NO's? Be warned about this one, spend the time to search for another compter repair service in the Desert.
