The job was completed, and everything cleaned up. They painted the fence and took away the old one.
Extremely satisfied.
I contacted Travis the owner through Angie's list asking for a quote; he was quick to respond and we set up date and time for the quote. Travis came out and brought some pictures of wrought iron examples and I told him the basic look I was looking for. We had a good conversation and he seemed like a pretty cool guy and family man. After about 30 minutes he said he would email me back with three different designs for me to take a look at and I should get it within a couple of days which I did. Travis told me the the job would take five weeks to complete which wasn't a big deal to me.
His prices were about $500 more than another company that I had come out (also with good rating on Angie's List) so I asked if he could mach the other company. He said could't come down that much because he was using much thicker material but he did lower the price by several hundred dollars so I decided to got with Ferro Iron..
They used thicker diameter bar stock on my gates and panels which really gave it a nice heavy duty look and feel to it; For example, Industry standard for the vertical bars is 5/8" and they used 3/4". They also paint their wrought iron as opposed to powder coating them. I asked why this was and he gave me a few reasons which made perfect sense.
The Bad:
Let me start by saying Travis is horrible at getting back you whether you cal him or text him. I waited until the sixth week to reach out to him asking what the status of my gates were. Three days later I had to call again asking what the status was and instead of a return phone call I got a text message saying they wold come out and do a pre-fit the following week. I said ok, just let me know when. The following Thursday I text him asking if they had been out; he responded and said they had and they fit like a glove. I said ok, well when will they be installed. He asked if next Saturday was fine and I said sure. Late Friday afternoon i get a call from Travis asking me what the color was I had selected for the paint. I said I don't know the name Travis I'm at work and why are you calling me the day before the install asking what the colow is? Anyway, they painted them the wrong color, Travis said no big deal, I'll go get the new paint and re-paint them now and they will be fine by tomorrow.
We'ere now in week nine. They show up Saturday morning to install the gates and I immediately realize that the paint has not fully cured and there numerous areas of damage to the paint for man handling them. They said no big deal we have spare paint. in the mean time, the gate was off square so to fix it the guys took it off and started slamming in on a block of wood to straighten it which completely removed all the paint on the bottom. I also noticed the metal was bowed slightly were the locks go and pointed that out so they said they would fix it. The next thing I hear the sound of a arc welder from inside my house. I went outside only to see that where they had welded on the gate completely bubbled and destroyed the paint and primer around the weld area, I was furious and told them to take the gate back to the shop and re-materialize it, primer and paint it. I called Travis and told him what they had done and that I wanted the gate stripped and fixed. He agreed and said it would be back next Tuesday. They came back out with the gate to re-install it and repaint the 20 plus spots I had marked that needed re-painting from the handling of the gates during the install, I had to leave to work and stay to babysit these guys which was a mistake.
The next day I could palinly see all the spots where they had touhed up, it looked horrible and I was not happy at all. Were now on week 10 and at this point I'm really regretting going with Ferro Iron. I text and called Travis and of course got no response for a while. I told him he needs to get a brand new gallon of paint and needs to hand roll every square inch of those gates so everything was uniformly painted. He agreed and said he would personally be out firs thing in the morning to do the painting himself. Travis finally showed up at 11:30 (which is not first thing in the morning in my book) to start the painting but now half they daylight had passed and the gates were going to have all day to dry.
In the end, he did re-paint every square inch of the gates and they finally looked good.
If you decide to go with Ferro Iron, make sure he sticks to his promised delivery date. Make sure you tell him to not touch or move the gates until the gates are completely dry to the touch. This isn't something you should be having to tell someone who's been in this business for as many years as they have but apparently you do with them.
Travis is horrible with communication; not once did he call me or text me with status updates. I always had to call of text him first and then I sill would sometimes have to follow up with a second call or text.
Other then the paint fiasco and them running 5 weeks PAST the promised completion date, I am very pleased with the look and quality of the gates.
Would I recomend Ferro to someone else? I would but with the advice I gave above
"Yes, The project took longer than expected. We always strive to meet the completion date. We immediately dealt with all issues The project turned out very nice."
"I gave a price to Mr. [Member name] on site and followed up with several phone calls. We are sorry for the misunderstanding"
Travis the owner, and his crew were, on time, professional, and took the time to do an excellent job. I would definitely hire them again. I highly recommend them for any fencing job you may need for your home or business. Five star service!
They came out and corrected the problems.
