T W M ROOFING

Two years ago I contacted Mr. Marshall to address fixing 3 roof leaks. After having him out to see the job, he conveyed the idea that the repairs would cost around $1200, and that he would stand behind the repairs. He knew the goal was to get 3 or 4 more years out of the roof before it would be replaced altogether.
When I decided to go with TWM, and got the quote, it was now $2185. I still went with him, largely on the basis of his guarantee of the work.  The day the work was done, a his roofer came out with about $400 in materials, and worked for about 6 hours in total. Then the final invoice price was $2310. When the roof subsequently leaked, Mr. Marshall sent his man out again to give one more try at stopping the leak, which was unsuccessful. TWM wouldn't visit again, failing to fulfill his guarantee on fixing the leaks.
The roof was replaced last month, and I saw from the installation roofers that the flashings had not been installed properly during the repairs by TWM. To be fair, I understand fixing roof leaks can be a very trying exercise, but not using correct methodology is BS.
While Mr. Marshall is experienced, and a nice guy too, the quality of TWM's efforts on this job turned out to be substandard, and did not match with his assurances on keeping the roof from leaking. The quote ballooning by $900 should have been a big red flag for me to walk away in the first place....
  

The first day, the foreman (Mark) and his helper showed up, and they introduced themselves. Later that morning, a demo crew of about eight guys showed up with a dump truck. The entire demo job was completed in about five hours. The foreman and his helper worked late that day and completely covered the bare roof with asphalt paper. They wanted to finish this part of the job to insure that the roof would be somewhat waterproof. They were careful to leave the roof edges lightly tacked so that I could make my repairs. The showed me how to temporarily roll back the paper to access the starter board repair areas. Over the next week, I completed about 95% of the wood repairs. I ran out of material and time on Sunday evening. I called the owner and explained the problem. He arranged for the crew to come out early the next morning with the remaining material to finish the job. The two man crew worked for the next week applying the roof and several new dormer vents that I had asked for. The crew showed up on time, and they cleaned up after themselves daily. On one occasion, the foreman called me in the evening and explained that he had an appointment the following morning and that he would not be starting the job until noon on the following day. The owner and the foreman were very easy to work with. The owner personally inspected the progress throughout the job. They did a beautiful job, and the price was very competitive.

This was the second time we had hired this company. The company's communication with us was decent given that the work needed to be done during the busy rainy season, although we had to call to confirm they had received our signed contract and we were on their schedule. The job was done within the promised 3 to 5 weeks. Their workers cleaned up after the job. There have been no leaks, although it has rained several times since the job was completed.
