After Dr. Foltz looked at the x-rays and started the dental cleaning, he discovered that three teeth were abscessed and three had significant problems. The dental technician called to inform me that Dr. Foltz recommended removing all 6 teeth; they sought approval for the additional costs. They called to let me know how Harley was doing during the surgery. They also called later to let me know that Harley had recovered from the anesthesia and when I could pick him up. They gave me printed instructions on how to care for Harley at home, including giving him his post-surgery medications.. Dr. Foltz called the day after the surgery to answer my questions about Harley's post-surgical condition, which was very reassuring. For the first four days Harley was home, a staff member also called to check on him, which I really appreciated. . We went back after two weeks for a check-up. Since the sutures were bothering Harley, Dr. Foltz removed them, rather than wait for them to dissolve. Harley is feeling much better now!

I also want to provide some general comments about Pacific Animal Hospital.

When I moved to this area, I took my dogs to three veterinary practices before I settled on Pacific Animal Hospital. One important factor in my decision was the fact that they are accredited by the AAHA (the American Animal Hospital Association) which means the hospital facilities and staff have been reviewed and passed the highest standards in veterinary care. They were evaluated on approximately 900 standards of veterinary excellence in order to become accredited. To me, that is very impressive!!!

In addition:
The desk staff is helpful; several times they have fit us in the schedule the day I called for an appointment. The vet technicians are excellent. I've seen several vets and all have been very knowledgeable. They answer all my questions. I feel the quality of care they give is outstanding and that they really care about my pets and their well-being.

My husband and I drove to Pacific Animal Hospital immediately. We discussed what to do on the way there as our little dog was almost 15 years old and obviously dying. This doctor had not seen him yet and he was literally fading away and extremely thin and emaciated. I could not believe he had gone down so much in such a short time. She had read out the blood results for me and they were truly terrible. So much for the previous vet telling me there was no point in doing the blood work? And to bring him home to die! I wanted someone to help him so he would be comfortable in his last days. I was SO glad that I went and checked out Angie's List to get a second opinion on my dogs condition. When we got to the hospital the nurse met us and brought us into a small very comfortable room and talked with us. She could see how bad the dog was and explained all our various options. We could go ahead and leave him for three days for a battery of tests. (I did not want him to be among strangers at this difficult time in his life as I knew he was too weak to withstand it). Or we could make the decision to put him to sleep. Needless to say having had this little guy since he was a very small pup, I was crying my eyes out and trying not to let my dog see me basically starting to melt down at the prospect of losing him right there. After that Dr. Laura Halsey came in. She took one look at my dog and told me that she doesn't always agree to put a dog to sleep, but in this particular case she did agree that it was the right thing to do. She explained that it was very peaceful. She took him away to put a stent/catheter in his leg and brought him back. My husband and I cuddled him and said our goodbyes. We laid him down in his little bed and stroked him while she very gently produced a vial from her pocket. This was just a sedative. By this time our dog had closed his eyes while she discharged this liquid into the stent/catheter. My husband thought he may have already died before this was even in his system. But we were so overwrought by now we weren't thinking clearly. Then she put the strong anaethestic from the other vial in and said this just stopped the heart immediately. The whole thing took under two minutes if that. I highly recommend Dr. Halsey and Pacific Animal Hospital who are the best and most caring people I've ever met! She even asked if I would like hime to be cremated in his little bed! They have arranged to have our dogs ashes put into a box with his pawprint on top which we will get in a week, so we can bury him in our garden. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do, even though it was the right thing for Dexter.

When the tests came back next day it showed that our dog had only a quarter of his kidney function left and needed hospitalisation immediately plus possible dialysis. We were stunned. The reason he wasn't eating was because the kidney disease caused him to have very bad nausea.
Thank goodness that Dr. Foltz decided to do complete blood work on Dexter and did NOT tell us to bring him home to die in discomfort.
We went back after the results came through but Dr. Foltz was not there on the Saturday and we saw another doctor who I will review next.
This Veterinary service is excellent. I only wish I had found them before now.

We are new to the area and went on Angie's list for a Vet and decided on Pacific Animal Hospital. This place is huge and believe or not smelled great. No animal smell at all. The facility is very clean and the people who work there from front desk to the vet caretakers are very professional.
Zoe, our Siberian Husky was going for her yearly exam, rabies and other shots. She also got a heartworm test, which they did on site. They were gentle and understanding to Zoe's anxiety.
We also checked out their stay-over facility in case we go out of town. It was clean and there is an open area for the dogs to exercise.

I've been going to Pacific Animal Hospital for many years and I've been very happy with their service. I have a German shepherd who has a tendency to get pneumonia so I'm waiting on a call from them for his next check up. They do very good follow up calls. They check on their animals. It is a very good hospital. I have known their vet, Dr. Edward Attix for over thirty years. I consider him like a friend. The staff is very professional and very responsive. They even help me with the expense especially considering the fact that veterinarians are very expensive now-a-days. They will give me home remedies. They will make recommendations for treating the animals at home until it goes beyond ones capability. They will let me know in that case and ask me to get the dog in for them to take over his care. They also help me with the cost factor. I would recommend Pacific Animal Hospital to anybody that has an animal. They didn't charge me anything for the last visit as it was a follow up visit. I've had my dog there on full day of antibiotics and liquid infusions because he was down pretty bad once and it cost me only around a $100. I think that is reasonable. I'm very happy with their professionalism and their knowledge. They follow up well. The doctors call a day later to check on the animal. They make sure that everything they did was good and there were no bad experiences. I would continue to go to Pacific Animal Hospital in the future.

When you have Great Danes you really need to find a vet who has seen a lot of Danes because they aren't like other dogs. They have specific issues that other dogs don't so the vet needs to be aware of it. It's difficult to find a Dane expert. This vet is becoming an expert because my Danes are the only ones he's seen and I've gone to him for like thirty years, so he is an expert now. He is the best diagnostician I have ever run across in my life. On the way in the door he has a glance at the dogs and says what's going on and just runs some tests to confirm it. One of my dogs had an allergic reaction, I took him to different vets but he was not ok. Then I fixed an appointment with him and took the dog in. He turned the dogs head and said it is folliculitis which is an infection of the hair follicles. He just gave three weeks of antibiotics and that was end of story. He is really good. I've had people tell me that he is really good and to stick with him so that's kind of impressive.

This isn't a review of a specific incident, but rather a relationship i've had with this company for close to a decade.
