"This was a large 2 story addition. This customer actually wanted to complete the work in stages and pay the equivalence of Minimum Wage. The foundation was completed during the rain storms of October - Nov. 2013 as per my original contract. The building was constructed starting in Jan. 2014 under a new contract. We were responsible for completing the framing, windows and doors, roof trusses and shingles, and all exterior finishes. Then a few months after this completed Contract, [Member Name Removed] asked me to provide the electrical, plumbing, and gas services. I felt a sense of pride, after completing the beautiful main structure, and looked forward to building the rear deck. I just felt compelled to complete the rest of the work....... [Member Name Removed] told me that he wanted me to hire his "Friend" to perform the electrical work as part of the deal. At the time, my regular electrician was unavailable so I obliged. Little did I know, that this action would be my undoing as you will see in another less than desirable Review. I also gave [Member Name Removed] a great price and was basically an at cost favor, just to be a part of the project. Things would have turned out fine had I just listed to my gut and Not agreed to use his Electrician friend. This guy started off OK and so I had him work at another job too. Then he disappeared from both jobs and took all my material with him. Hows that for Poor Management of Sub??? Actually so Yes, I had to come up with my own money and hire another Electrician to complete the job, and that took me some time. This job should have cost around $35K and I was only paid a total of $16K. The problem wasn't an inability to manage money (laughable), it was the customer only wanting to be cheap and unreasonable after his friend stole everything from me. After using me to work and complete all the Rough Inspections, he then Fired me siting the above mentioned **. He had insisted that I install all the outlets, switches, and light fixtures, which is NOT part of the rough inspection faze we agreed on. He insulted my plumber and electrician (2 very Professional people) by stating that their work was incomplete, even though the Permit Rough-in was signed off. [Member Name Removed] expected everything to be installed even though the interior was still bare framing, without insulation, drywall, interior doors, or any other finishes. He apparently was planning to move into the addition with only bare framed walls and exposed wiring and plumbing. That's simply Crazy, and I had never seen that before. I told him that I would be happy to install everything, once the interior was finished. (That's the correct [Member Information Removed] of doing things) I Knew that it wasn't safe as well as Illegal to do what he was demanding. This also made him angry and he refused to pay me. Basically thanks to his electrician friend, this had a domino effect with another project we were involved with at the same time. We have always had great reviews and have done well on Angie's List over the years, and we will try hard to put this behind us, and move on."
"NOT MY JOB !!! NEVER HEARD OF THIS PERSON!! NEVER BEEN THERE !!! Please Flag Advise: If you are trying to shoot something, at least OPEN your eyes when aiming. LOL"
Rick was very professional throughout the contract process and thoroughly documented the additional work asociated with the 2 Change Orders. He was on site everyday and checked the work from the previous day and always discussed the new work for the day with the crew.
Rick handled all the coordination with the sub-contractor that poured the cement for the new foundation and the company that ordered and installed the new garage door.
Construction is very messy and noisy and Rick went out of his way to accommodate any requests from my neighbors to move the trucks or mitigate the noise in the early house.
I do not know what went wrong on my remodel. After 4 months in a rented apartment and another with no kitchen,
the remodel completed ? well sort of.
The water and gas plumbing would
not pass city inspection. There was a leak in the wall of the shower, the
shower door leaked and the driveway is cracking in several places. The kitchen
flooring buckled, the transition bathroom thresholds did not match the existing
hardwood flooring, some finishing were left undone and the kitchen electrical
also had a few issues.
Rick had been paid $133,000.00
and was unwilling to fix and complete the work. His conversations became rude,
bullying, manipulative, filled with accusations, and refused to take any
responsibility for the poor workmanship of his subs. I was frustrated,
disappointed and angry my remodel project was not completed a year and a half
after it began. After 6 months of grief and strife, I hired a project manager
to communicate with Rick. Under his direction, Rick did return and fixed many
issues. For the rest I hired professionals to complete the work to my
acceptance, ( I withheld those costs from final payment).
The remodel finally passed all the final permit inspections.
Due to poor communication, vague
contracts and the lack of drawings; I paid for and got things I did not want
and I didn?t get some things I did want.
A hard lesson learned.
Rick had great workers and sub-contractors. He was able to muster skilled crews of 2 to 20 depending on the day's task. Along the way, Rick discovered some dry rot, made repairs, and identified the moisture source. He networked with others to see that some of the "urbanite" could be reused. He was easy to get in touch with and responded promptly to every concern. I would definitely recommend RDM Construction.
"This was a pretty interesting project. I'm glad to had the chance to build a structure like that. A simple 2x12 framed Driveway Bridge with a concrete slab over it (for those living in the hills) needed to be rebuilt, but the current Building Codes turned it into an Engineering marvel with its required ability to support a fire truck of about 50,000 lbs.......... It Looks Beautiful too !"
"Rick's Response: Unfortunately this was not my customer, but some kind of mistake. We never did any work here. However, if we had, we would have worked harder to earn an "A" rating in all the categories."
He KNOWS foundations and structural work. He seriously gets excited to do jobs like this and I can't tell you how happy I've been to work with him on these projects. His finish work is also well done and my only criticism is that he doesn't quite get as excited or have the same energy for this work, but when he does it, it's done well.
We will continue to use him as our go-to general contractor for our work here and I look forward to working with him for years to come. Future projects we intend to use him on: bathroom and kitchen remodel.
I don't easily or often give "A"s but Rick has earned them all.
