There are Pros and Cons, in regards, to the service rendered by Mr. Rooter Plumbing. PROS Upon entering the initial service request, on Angie’s List, Mr. Rooter Plumbing responded the next morning to schedule an estimate appointment. The Representative who contacted us was professional, prompt and very courteous. The estimate appointment was scheduled on a Wednesday and the technician arrived as scheduled. Thereafter, we were able to schedule the actual job for the following Friday. The quoted estimate was $180.00 dollars per hour for a four-hour job to remove an old sink and replace with a new vanity/sink. We felt it was a bit pricey, but we had been without the usage of our bathroom sink, so we decided to move forward with the install. CONS Once we received the written “estimate”, I called the office for further clarification and breakdown of the pricing “estimate”. My question was, If the job is based on a four-hour timeline and it doesn’t last for four hours would there be a reduction on the cost? Mind you, it was not a money issue, we had the funds, we just didn’t want to be taken for granted. The representative who answered the phone said, she could not answer my question and would have to contact the estimate technician and she would get back to me. This initial call was made in the morning. I had errands to run, so I expected a return call should arrive, at least, by the afternoon. But, to my surprise, NO PHONE CALL! So, I called AGAIN, in the afternoon. I was given the same message, by the same individual. She would contact the estimate technician and get back to me. GUESS WHAT? No return call. So, I can assume there was no intention to respond to my question. The next day, of the install appointment, the installers did not arrive at the appointed time, but approx. 50 minutes later. AND had the gall to request that my husband SIGN and PAY for the job before even starting. Has anyone told them this is NOT HOW BUSINESS IS CONDUCTED! I guess not. During the job the installers said, the line was a bit clogged and in order to unclog the line, my husband had to pay an additional $150.00. My husband refused and requested to speak to their boss. That did not happen. They decided to go ahead and unclog the line. From start to finish, the entire job took approx. 3 hours. SO, the way we see it, since the job/pricing was based on a four hour job, which they finished in three hours and NEVER returned my calls with pricing clarification, we should have no been requested to pay an additional $150.00 at the onset. The overall install was “OK”. There were a couple of minor issues which should have been corrected, but, I guess it is what it is.

"Hi [Member Name Removed], Thanks for the feedback. We are sorry that the communication prior to your job was poor. As owners, Spencer, who did your estimate, and myself are truly committed to providing quality service, the kind we would like in our own home. Spencer took over the business this January after working with his father for 20 years. He does his best to support our employees and take care of all of our customers. Sometimes he is not able to return all phone calls same day. Just so no one feels taken advantage of, your estimate was based on the work of one technician. We sent two technicians to work on your project and that is why they were able to finish faster. Our appointments are always given in 2 hour time windows. Your appointment was an 8-10 arrival and it looks like our technician arrived at 8:52 just as you mentioned. We always give a window of arrival due to the unpredictable nature of our work. We apologize for any miscommunication about that from our end. We do ask all of our customers to sign an electronic authorization form prior to starting work. Perhaps that is what your husband signed. It is our policy not to ask for payment before completion of work unless it is a down payment on a large project, which yours was not. I will talk with our technician and make sure that is clear with him. If you have any other questions or concerns please let me know. Erika Ferguson Owner 510-984-1834"

They don't have the necessary skills and tools to do the job. They took the toliet out and tried placing a camera down the hole without success. They claimed that the camera was too big but they don't have another sized camera. He wasn't willing to go up to the roof and place the camera down the pipe on he roof and instead went into the crawl space to take pictures Andy made an exterior visual inspection. They made an accessment with very limited info and they asked me to hire someone else if i wanted a further accessment. That's all they did and it took them a whole day and charged $650. they don't have best practices and I can't recommend.

We ended up not going with Mr. Rooter, but that was because out of the three bids we got one that was a bit lower and had more context for the reasons behind the estimate. Having said that, we were please with the responsiveness and punctuality of Mr. Rooter. They were in constant touch with us as they worked around some scheduling issues and emergency jobs. We did not feel like we were being disrespected or forgotten. They were always courteous and took the time they needed to understand what we wanted.
I like the company I went with, but I would not hesitate to call on Mr. Rooter if the people I went with were to be unavailable in the future.

Blocked drainage rendered toilet, shower, bath and kitchen sinks unusable. Technician worked major parts of two days locating the problem, resolving it, and combined cost items to keep price reasonable, though still expensive. He and a helper who came the second day were meticulous about cleanup, extremely polite and very detailed in explaining what they were doing and why.

What a great experience! I discovered the leak on Friday night at midnight. I called Mr Rooter at 9 am Saturday and the technician (Chris) arrived before noon. He was very respectful of my house, wore shoe covers, and cleaned everything up at the end. He clearly had great plumbing expertise and discovered the problem quickly. He described every step thoroughly and ensured that everything was working properly after the repairs. I'll definitely use Mr Rooter (preferably Chris!) again in the future.
