We had David do a couple of projects for us. He does good quality work and has great attention to detail. He is conscientious and very knowledgeable about older houses. He replaced a section of rotten bay window frame and made improvements to it so that it will hopefully never have to be done again.

David was great to work with. We had a very old crappy fence that needed removing and replacing. Even though it was 1 billion degrees outside he worked so hard and built us a beautiful and sturdy fence for a great price.

David was fantastic to work with. The underlying structure to our cement front steps was degrading due to water getting into the wooden support structure. David got under the stairs and installed a sister board on a joist that was starting to go. He then blew out my crummy cement patching on the top of the steps that looked terrible and very nicely repaired the cracks. My stairs are now rock solid and ready for the winter. Separately, David also repaired some water damaged base boards and dry wall. He also replaced a cracked window (which was awesome because finding someone who could do that job seemed impossible). Finally, he cut out and made a door in the stairway wall to our basement so I could more easily access a crawl space. Overall, David was great to work with. He's a easy going guy and clearly takes great pride in his work. I have hired other guys in the past to do some projects and was not impressed their desire to do a top quality job. David is not that way and I will certainly be hiring him again.

The work went great. He explained how he fixed the deck and what had caused the rot in the first place. I was very satisfied with his work.

I met David Barnett and he gave me an acceptable estimate for the work to be done.So I hired him and he told me how long it would take to do the job and what hours he liked to work.I agreed and he started working.I am very impressed with his knowledge and skills in every area that he worked. He goes above and beyond and listens to what I have to say about how I like things to look.He takes great pride in his work and he checked with me throughout the entire process.I did have some other things I wanted done while he was here. And I agreed to pay him for those ad ons ..(Food for thought,if you agree on an estimate and then ad more then you pay him for those things) .He is worth every penny and I will gladly hire him again in the future for other work. You will not be disappointed if you choose to hire David. Sandy Very satisfied customer

Dave originally said via email and on the phone that he charged by the hour and the rate seemed very reasonable. And based on time and materials his estimate for the whole job would be $1500. He estimated that the job would take three to four days but not full days as some of the time would be waiting for things to dry. I added up the hours onsite after the first couple of days and asked him if his estimate had changed because I didn't see how we could get to $1500 based on the hours and materials remaining. He then said that the job was a "fixed bid" job and that the number of hours he spent working didn't matter--the cost of the job was $1500. He also said that other contractors would take longer and we should be happy he was so experienced and quick. And disturbingly, he accused me of "stalking" him because I kept track of the hours he was at our house and that he "would have hired 20 lawyers" had he known I would question the cost of the job. In the end he submitted an invoice that came to exactly $1500 and the hours were definitely inflated. Needless to say, we wouldn't hire him again. I don't know if the job was done right as the real test will be during this winter when the rains come. But I recommend anyone that works with him get a very specific bid in writing with signatures instead of relying on emails, conversations and texts.
Response from Barnett Construction
"Fixed a problem that multiple contractors tried to fix which was evident by a lot of recent work that failed. Quoted 1,500 in the first 5 minutes of seeing the job."

From the get-go David was responsive and easy to work with. I sent an e-mail after reading his profile and reviews on Angies list, and got a phone call back in short order. He came by for an estimate and discussion of my request for a fence for my front yard, and he promptly sent me photos of a few examples. David built the fence which seems like a relatively simple task, but it’s not when the home, and surrounds are many decades old (100+). The fence sits atop an old retaining wall poured in the early 50s that is not at all level and shifting. David’s skill and knowledge enabled excellent problem-solving so that he could build a fence that looks fantastic, has a level topline, and is stable. He also built a custom gate; again, nothing on my property is standard, so even this seemingly simple task is a bit complex. I would highly recommend David for any job.

David did an amazing job. I had him working at our house, he was a jack of all trades and I needed someone with multiple skill sets. He did extensive siding work, including removal of a full fireplace. He reassembled everything, robbed siding from the back of the house and blended it in (it was hard to find). He built closets and a fence and bench seating on a brick wall. He is resourceful, clean, professional. A great value. Great communicator, hard worker. Thanks Dave, appreciate all your hard work.

Everything was incredible. It's a challenge to find talented, hard working and honest contractors in the Bay Area. David is all of the above plus dependable and shows up on time. I enjoyed working with him on my projects and will continue to hire David as new remodel projects arise.

Everything went splendidly. David was very professional and prompt. He was honest with me every step of the way, and the price of the job was the same as the estimate. He was easy to get a hold of, and returned my messages quite quickly. I guess the best way to describe my feeling about his work would be that I kept finding more jobs for to do around the house. And Of course I am hiring him again when the next thing breaks down in my house.

David completed the work in 3 and 1/4 days within his original cost estimate totally to our satisfaction. He told special care to avoid disturbing our flower bed underneath the balcony. He left the site looking neat and clean. Bottom line, David is a PRO.

It went very well and was accomplished before winter rains made more of a mess for us. David spent 3 1/2 days on the project and left the site, including our front yard flower bed, clean and undamaged working in very close quarters. His work goes beyond the definition of a "handy man". He is a PRO in all facets of the work he did for us; knowledge of dry rot abatement; products to kill the fungus; painting techniques to "hide" the 2/12 repair; etc. The final cost was within his initial estimate.
Response from Barnett Construction
"Thanks again."
