We emptied the house so the floors could be refinished while we were on vacation.  Before we were even at the airport my cell phone rang to say that my smoke alarm was going off.  Apparently the dust from the sanding had set it off..  The contractor said that they should have covered the smoke alarm.
We returned home about 10:00 p.m. to find that we had no lights.  I called the contractor and left a message for him.  He responded the first thing the following morning.  He came by early in the day, said it was a fuse.  They must have known that they blew a fuse while they were here.  Instead of fixing the problem, or at the very least letting us know so we could have had someone replace it before we arrived home, they let us return to a pitch black house.
After we started putting the furniture back into place i noticed that there were places where the finish was "puddled", mostly at the entryway to the bathrooms.  It's noticeable.  PLUS....there were at least a half dozen places where the finish had splashed up onto the walls!!! I'm not talking about a few spots.  These were big splashes.  I had just painted the entire house, (the floors were the last part of my house re-do) and had to repaint several areas.
It's been 7 years since the floors were done and, aside from fading (is that normal?) they look good.  Would I hire them again? Not on your life.  For me, the fact that the floors look good (except for the parts that have puddling) wasn't worth all the rest of it.   They would look just as good had we hired a more careful contractor.
In fairness I should say that I didn't call the contractor to complain about the puddles and the splashes.   I simply didn't want to go through even more sanding, dust and contractors.  That said, I didn't give the contractor a chance to "make it right".   To my mind though, it should have been done right in the first place.

He and his crew did an excellent job, on time, on budget and they cleaned up afterward. The work was done in two days with 3 coats of water based finish. There were no gouges, dips, or sanding marks on the floor. The floor was even, smooth and in the color I chose. They are also trustworthy as I had to go away after scheduling and left keys with them and I came home to beautifully refinished floors with everything else as I had left it.
