We were displeased because the price increased 50% from what we were led to expect. We verbally agreed he would have his plumbing subcontractor replace the heater ''for about $1000''. It was not discussed whether this was a time and material arrangement, or a fixed bid. Later when the bill arrived, it was for $1500. Months later, we found out that the installation was not done according to the building code. The emergency pressure discharge line had not been run to the house exterior. At first, he refused to pay for this item, even though the project had a city permit and was supposed to meet code. When we insisted it was his responsibility, he finally sent someone to perform it. On the plus side, the water heater does meet our requirements and seems ok now.
