Zenith Construction

We entered into contract with Eddy Bradley DBA Zenith Construction in November of 2013. We originally hired him to redo a bathroom however he assured us he knew how do the other things we wanted done to the home such as remodel a kitchen, lay hardwood floors , sheet rock, remodel a bathroom and update another, paint the home inside and out, as well as update wiring of home. On February 4, 2014 a representative from Stanislaus County building department issued a stop work order because work was being done without permits because Eddy Bradley DBA Zenith Construction failed to pull appropriate and required permits for work he was hired to do. Prior to February 17, 2014 Zenith Construction had given us assurance he knew how to lay hardwood floor. He called us on the 17th to tell us we were sold "starter" boxes of wood and after laying approximately 500 ft or so he began to take a skill saw to the floor already laid even after he was asked not to do anything until my husband arrived to survey work (which we saw the night before and it looked good). The floor company we purchased the floor from assured us Zenith was in the wrong and that "starter boxes" were no longer used. The floor company also told us Mr. Bradley went to floor company asked questions and put a few boxes of wood on hold. After speaking with floor company it became painfully clear Mr. Bradley didn't know how to lay wood floors. He was asked to leave the job even though we still had an open Stop Work order in place. We met with Mr. Bradley on Feb18th 2014 to discuss disappointment and quality of work (he was asked to redo several things i.e.: electrical outlets were crooked, sheet rock wavy) , permits not obtained as required and re-payment to us. Eddy Bradley stated he didn't have any money to repay us for parts of job paid for up front. It was agreed we'd part ways, we'd become our own contractors and assume responsibility. It was agreed we'd settle the bill after work was completed which meant he'd need to repay us for work he was paid for in advance. He was asked to bring in a new water heater and leave enough wood to replace what he ruined, which he did on Feb. 18th before leaving the job for a final time. In addition to ruining the hardwood floor, Mr. Bradley did things like remove hot water heater w/o discussion prior and actually put in an electrical sub panel not up to code. Electrician was hired, the house needed to be rewired again to meet code and was a fire hazard from Zenith's work Plumber hired, plumbing had to be redone to meet code Tile contractor completed unfinished work (we still have spacers in tile Zenith left in) Floor installers hired to clean up floor mess left by Zenith's work crew and they installed new floor. Painter hired to complete painting inside and out. All work was completed to pass inspectors code violations by other contractors we had to hire. We sent letters to Zenith Construction, he replied asking for receipts which we sent. He had not responded back to settle bill when we asked him how he wanted to settle. He also has not responded to his contractors board to arbitrate. Zenith owes us 16,000.00 for work paid for in advance and for work that he did and had to be redone to meet code. , Mr. Bradley and his son arrived on time the next day, removed the damaged area of sheet rock and baseboards. The area was left open for 24 hours to dry out. They returned the following day and repaired the walls and baseboard so perfectly that you can't tell that there was any damage at all to the area. We will definitely hire them to do any future work or remodel that we need done. We are extremely HAPPY!!
