He did a lot of measuring and could see the tub deck had been built too tall by the prior contractor on our job. Part of the problem was the excessive amount of mortar that had been used to build the floor up, but all the wet material had swelled and warped the plywood base. The plumber should at least have used plastic between mortar and plywood base.
Ken told us what product we could use to waterproof the swelled wood (after it was completely dry and we belt sanded it) and together we came up with the wood needed to raise the floor height under the tub and top it with hardibacker, which we did ourselves.
He came back to help us reset it, applying the mortar as specified by the tub manufacturer, weighting it down and returning to caulk it, also giving us some good tips on that.
Ken has done contract work for us before. His specialty is remodeling. He is very honest, modest, and priced much lower than some inferior contractors. He was very busy when we contracted our remodel job, otherwise he would have done and overseen everything and our job would have gone right in the first place.
