Owner was quite professional, came in a timely manner, gave me suggestions as to placement of grab bars as well as another location in bathroom where a grab bar may allow me to get in and out of my bath tub. He quoted me the price for grab bars on the phone and I did not need a free consultation- it would have been time wasted for all when I knew my basic requirements. He brought several different sizes of grab bars to help in the decision-making process
Description of Work: installed 2 grab bars in my walk-in shower.

Terrific. Recommended the correct solution for security in showers, tubs, and bathroom. Installed 2 Chairlifts along stairs connecting basement/GARAGE and first floor and between first and second floors. On time and on budget. Clean installation; very finished look; unobtrusive as possible. Function and reliability of stair-lift is perfect.
Description of Work: Home mobility assessment. Installed grab bars in bathrooms, tubs, and showers, Installed 2 chairlifts.

Mark is dedicated to, trained in and knowledgeable about mobility aids for seniors.
Description of Work: Consulted on senior mobility devices: ramp from porch to street, shower grab handles, a stander pole (floor to ceiling pol with grab loops in the middle to hold on to, between commode and sink), elevator to garage/laundry room. Didn't do the ramp/elevator as these are expensive but worthwhile to know about. Will explore home care for doctor visit assistance. We did do two grab bars in shower and the stander pole in a second bathroom.

Mark was great and I'd highly recommend him. He was responsive, timely, efficient and professional. We asked him to do some general electrical work (installation of electrical outlets, installing a ceiling) and he was fantastic. His knowledge and experience clearly were displayed as he knocked out the projects faster than expected. We absolutely plan on using him for small and big projects in the future.

Because I will soon be having surgery that's expected to affect my mobility and stability (particularly during first several months) I was concerned about my shower's location (in a bathtub) creating a potential hazard due to risk of slipping, losing balance or falling. I called Mark and asked him to evaluate the shower area for recommended safety measures. He arrived on time and was very considerate, methodical and knowledgeable about what needed to be done. He advised installing one vertical bar about shoulder-height next to shower entrance and another horizontal bar on the far wall about waist-height to use for stability when bending over. Mark arrived on time for the subsequent installation appointment and described how the bars would be placed and secured. After completion he mentioned he'd been able to work around an HVAC duct behind one of the shower walls. All in all, the installation went exactly as planned, and Mark did a very good job pleasantly explaining what needed to be done and why.
Description of Work: Installation of hand bars for stability in tub/shower in anticipation of post-surgery physical rehab.

Mark MacAvoy isa skilled craftsman and he was experienced in installing durable medical equipment/accesibility product installation. I recommend Mark also because he has a deep understanding of the needs of the non-ambulatory disabled. It was a pleasure to have him in our home. It was very obvious that being of a genuine help to us was very much part of what motivates him. Dr. Sparks Lunney, San Anselmo, CA 94960
Description of Work: My wife has MS, and in my professional life, I have worked with thousands of people with MS. Since moving from our very accessible home in Naples, Florida to Marin County we have been working on providing the in-home accessibility my wife needs. After much research, we purchased a wheel chair accessible “roll in” shower unit from Universal Design Specialists, Inc. The unit is excellently designed. Our focus turned to locating a skilled contractor with experience with durable medical equipment/accessibility product installation. Both the President of Universal Design Specialists and the national MS related NPO I had been affiliated with in Florida recommended Mark MacAvoy of In-Home Independence. I too now recommend Mark for he is indeed a skilled craftsman and he was experienced in installing the units like the one we had purchased. I recommend Mark also because he has a deep understanding of the needs of the non-ambulatory disabled. It was a pleasure to have him in our home. He was kind, considerate, on time and he was methodical about what he wanted to do. Everything he did had to be custom, because of the uniqueness of the bathroom. He made sure to check with us before he made any decisions.
Description of Work: He developed a creative fix to make a bathroom safe and functional for an elderly person with several disabilities.

The project was a conversion from a bathtub to a handicapped accessible shower. Mark had all the information I needed to make the decision to go ahead with the project. He was able to complete the project within my time frame and the finished product is beautiful. He was also very helpful making suggestions of what other adaptions I might need to make before my mother came home and was able to suggest sites where I could find the equipment.
Description of Work: I couldn't be happier with my first contact with the company. He responded and made the appointment to meet on site within a couple of days. He was very knowageable and able to answer all my questions.
