We asked for a quote on fixing outlets with reverse polarity and re-wiring certain rooms in the house we'd just bought. Dennis gave us a quote for that. He also gave us an evaluation of what the house really needed to bring it up to current code (and gave us an option about upgrading the wiring beyond current code since we plan to resell), an overview that was so comprehensive that it was blindingly obvious that he really knows his stuff. He said up front that he's "not the cheapest electrician" out there, but since 1. we already knew that a considerable portion of the house's existing systems displayed at best, half-baked, and at worst, hazardous, DIY work, and 2. we wanted certainty that the upgrading of the electrical system would be done right the first time, we decided that Dennis's experience and knowledge gave us a peace of mind that was priceless. Dennis didn't disappoint. In addition to resolving problems of 21st-century energy requirements drawing on a 1950s electrical system, he cleaned up tangles of wiring (some exposed) that would probably at some point have caused a fire. He also gave concrete, effective ideas for how to address a paperwork headache, when we discovered that one bedroom, added in the 1970s, was not documented by the City to have been done with a permit and therefore left us in a kind of legal limbo where we couldn't legally upgrade it (which could cause problems, both for being able to get an inspector to sign off on the current renovations as done properly, and in the future for getting our money's worth in a resale).
