Brought my car in. Transmission rebuilt, etc., as above. Took car home. I didn't like the way the car handled. Drove it a week or so to get a "feel" for it. Brought it back. Carlos tweaked and adjusted tranny at no charge. I then proceeded to put 4,000 miles on my car in 6 weeks (normal is about 500 miles a month). She ran beautifully. My car is 28 years old, and parts are sometimes (sometimes?) a challenge to find. Repairs routinely take longer than Carlos expects simply because tracking down some parts takes longer than he expects. However, Carlos will call me *immediately* when he finds there are delays, to keep me updated. We both learned to add a fudge factor of 25% on to any estimated time for repairs. Carlos will answer all questions, is honest, forthright, and a delight and joy to work with. When things don't go as he expected, he says so, explaining in detail if I request. Not everybody wants to know details. I grew up in a house full of mechanics, so I not only want to know, I understand. I've changed mechanics at times not because they weren't good mechanics, but because they wouldn't explain repairs, or glitches, or "why this and not that" questions. Carlos explained, even on those rare occasions when the explanation might make his shop look stupid. I just moved to Albany, NY, from Northridge, CA, and I *miss* Carlos very much. I'm going to have to train a new mechanic, and I'm not looking forward to it. Finding a mechanic who is not only competent and honest, but has no problem talking "mechanic" to a woman can be challenging. More so it seems than finding parts for my car.
