We were told the job would be an 8am start on a Thursday and be done same day, and that we would have the "all clear" lab results by 10am the next day. This was important to us as we have a 5-year-old and wanted to evacuate until we were 100% sure there were no fibers in the air, and on a school night made arrangements to stay with a friend.
After reading about the process and looking over the contract we were concerned about the damage to our house. My husband called the office and Jason told him in no uncertain terms not to worry, they don't use staples and the crew is very careful.
On the date of service, they showed up 20 mins late and said it would be a 2-day job because we rescheduled several times, which we hadn't. When we called the office, Jason told us that it was actually delayed because they got a bigger job and they were short crew guys? Had we known this, we clearly would have rescheduled. We were then told the "all clear" may have to wait until Monday, which would mean we had to stay out through the weekend.
When the job was finished the next day at 5:30 - there was a lot of chipped paint around all the vents, a scratch on the hardwood floor, mysterious wax like blue scuffs on the floor and in the doorways, and wait for it - staples left in the door frame. Jason claimed he never said they don't use staples.
In his defense, Mark the owner did his best to field our calls over his vacation and pushed for a verbal "all clear" end of day Friday which we appreciated. He also personally came out to remove the staples, and removed an 11th hour charge from our bill.
Mark said the job actually took longer because there was some roofing debris up there he didn't see when he did the estimate, and that he actually could have charged us more. This was something he told us after the fact when he came to the house, several days after the job was completed, so not sure which of the 3 stories was the actual cause of the delay.
The heating company recommended ATI and told me they are their first choice. I was told by the heating company it may be difficult to schedule soon enough because of the holiday and because it is always busy during the winter season. Imagine no heat for a month possibly because that could've been easily the earliest the asbestos would be removed. Bad news right?
When the heating company called to make the appointment on December 20th ATI told them they would come on December 23th and do the work. ATI faxed a contract to me on December 22nd and told me they would make my situation a priority because of theholiday season. Their workers drove almost two hours to start at 8:00am and they were on time. They were finished in 3 hours. Very clean and thorough work. Two of the smallest guys I have ever seen but they did "kick a**" work!
The heating company completed the work the next day and we had a warm house ?. Please accept the highest rating from me five out of five stars.
Sincerely
LB
I followed up on Monday morning and spoke with a gentleman who came off as an owner. He was very argumentative and dismissive that his staff had left a gaping hole in our roof. He claimed that the contract showed that they do not do such repairs and I should have known that. He further implied that my husband was lying when he said he had reached out and left messages and touted the "thousands" of jobs he done with others "understanding" his position. Again a another arrogant and sideways dig.
When i addressed this with my husband, he told me that the staff had said they would cap the hole because the removed pipe was no longer relevant so it was just a function of simply putting the cap in the hole. When I got home I reviewed the contract and we did not fall into a repairs category.
The same individual I spoke with also spoke to my husband, and continued to argue his point with him until it became clear that he was wrong.
There are many people who provide services and when you are dropping 500 payments for a super basic service, a little courtesy is expected. The fact that staff forgot to re-place the cap further reduces the overall outcome, but it gave us a good indication of the managements lack of respect for the client. Had he been a gentleman about it, we might have a different opinion about staff not following thru.
