They completed the job on time and I visually inspected that the sheet metal was installed. I didn't inspect the seals on the vents and dormers on the slanted part of the roof as it was too steep to climb there. The contractor assured us that this was done properly too.
Less than a year later, we have another substantial rain. The roof appears to leak in all the same places. Every place where we had a bucket collecting water in the attic before, were leaking again. I called the company and had them schedule someone to come down for inspection. They didn't show up on the scheduled day. We called again, and they were able to fit us in one week later.
A new rain storm was coming, so when they came back and we showed all the leaks (dried by then), they told us that we had to seal the dormers again. This time I went on the roof myself and discovered that nothing has been done to the old seals. They looks like they were decades old and the light was clearly shining through them. They guy put some temporary seal, since the rain was coming but told me that he would have to come back to scrape it off and put a proper seal in place (the one that I had already paid for the last time around).
It has been raining all night long and the next morning (12/12/14), I saw major leaks in my office with damage to computers, furniture and walls. I called the company and talked to Tim. I explained to him what has happened. They have suddenly became very aggressive and told me that I was trying to "pin" what happened on them. They would not admit that the work has not been done and suggested that I hire another company.
"On 3/7/14, my estimator, Tim, met with the member to assess a leak in his roof. Upon arriving to his house, Tim found the entire front of the house (steep slope) was covered with a tarp. (Member name removed) showed Tim the leak in the house which was at the drain area, lower front of the house. The member took Tim into his attic to show him the leak (tall attic to walk in). Tim then went on the roof, under the tarp to see the leak area up close. He determined the (2) drains were the cause of the leak and looked at the remaining fiber-cement slate roof to do additional maintenance as requested. We secluded and did repairs on 3/28/14. We sent a 4-man crew who did repairs as per contract including an option of doing additional repairs at peak. Our crew spent 6 hours on site doing repairs and maintenance. As part of the repairs, we touched up corners at front of (3) large dormer vents. Our contract for repairs has a “one call back” warranty – after first substantial rain. On 12/10/14, we received a call from (member name removed) about a leak and we went out on 12/11/14 to check the leak. As for saying we didn’t show up on a scheduled day, that is just not true. My foreman, Rey, found a leak, which we addressed, (9 months ago wasn’t leaking), but the leaks were coming from the dormer vents. My foreman went into the attic and could see daylight at the base of the vents. Rey remembers the drains were leaking in March but no report of dormer vents. Rey applied Sikaflex caulking to try and seal at the base of the vents as possible. It was clear that the manufacturer of the vents didn’t do a good job on the soldering. Also, Rey pointed out a sprinkler leak in the attic to (member name removed) and he said he didn’t care about that. Tim and myself talked about the situation when Rey reported back to us. Tim then came to the conclusion that the reason he didn’t see daylight 9 months earlier was because the tarp was on the roof and the fact that (member name removed) never told him and showed him leaking around dormer vents when they were in the attic. Tim called (member name removed) to explain the situation but all he did was scream at Tim and was very unreasonable. Tim recommended he have a sheet metal man address the dormer vents because the roof is flashed properly to the vents, it’s the vents that are not correctly made. I have been in business for 42 years and all of my work is referral work for the last 30 years. I get calls from Angie’s List customers all the time and when I check, it seems we have a high grade. It is unfortunate that one customer is being so unreasonable about this situation. My motto is, “no problems, only solutions.” The fact that this man just wants money back to resolve this situation tells me he is trying to take advantage. We stand behind our work, and if you check rain calendars (which we have), you would see we had 7 days when it rained in Encino prior to 12/10/14."
Very knowledgable, professional and capable team. I will use them in the future and would highly recommend them to friends and neighbors.
The work was done in 2 days. The foreman and the crew had been doing this work for many years and were extremely efficient in tearing the old roof down and putting the new one up quickly.
All in all, I am very pleased with the work Konrad Roofing performed on my house. The only knock on them was that in my opinion, they were not the most responsive at times. But, in totality, they did a very good job on my roof and I would definitely recommend them to my friends.
