I telephoned owner Sam Ball and left a voice-mail message. He returned my call in a couple of hours. I described the project and we agreed that no preliminary site visit would be necessary. We set the work for the following Saturday. The project was to install nine salvaged tin ceiling panels in a specified pattern on a vertical wall facing a staircase landing. It was necessary that each panel be perfectly level and precisely located so that all of them would be adjacent with no space between, like a jigsaw puzzle. Sam arrived on time and with all of the necessary tools. He attached two-piece cleats first to each panel and then to the wall, starting at the bottom and working up. I watched while he carefully placed each panel, making sure that it was exactly where it was supposed to be. After two hours, he was finished and the installation was perfect.
