I contacted Acclaim shipping to pick up a vintage organ from Michigan and deliver it to my studio in Los Angeles. I mostly dealt with Marlene and she had nothing but apathy for me.
1) The first red flag was she made me pay in full for the service when I was fully aware that shipping companies have a policy of half up front and half upon delivery.
2) I was told delivery would take 2-3 weeks, it took 7.
3) Once I paid in full I had to chase down Marlene for information regarding delivery date, trucking company, driver, etc.. She was the worst at returning phone calls.
4) The trucking company literally called me 7 -10 times looking for specific info regarding pick up location, etc.. Marlene never gave them the proper information.
5) I was never offered all the options for packing the organ for transport. When the driver arrived at the pick up location in Michigan he called me on the the home owners cell phone explaining if I DO NOT upgrade the packing he will not be responsible for damage. I had to pay an extra $150.
6) The trucking company delivered the organ at 10pm and demanded the upgraded packing fee be paid in cash.
These points are only the tip of the iceberg.. This was one of the worst experiences in my life.. I WOULD STRONGLY SUGGEST EXPLORING OTHER OPTIONS!!!!

Overall, they did a fair job, (they didn't break or lose anything) but I wouldn't necessarily recommend them or hire them again.

The Good:
Overall, the company is responsive and does a good job of coordinating the day, time and location for the move. They provided a moving truck and three movers. The movers were very courteous, friendly and professional. They didn't have a lot of moving experience and the equipment they were moving was extremely heavy. They did a good job though of not breaking or damaging anything.
The Bad:
This was easily a 3 hour job, but the company doesn't' communicate all of their "fine print". First, they didn't explain how extra time was to be charged, nor did they even tell their moving crew about the pre-paid Angies List deal. Next, I was very clear days in advance that I had very heavy equipment to move, but the company sent the movers out with a truck with no lift gate--this made it very difficult and dangerous for the movers. Additionally. the company tried to charge me an additional $50 for a "destination charge" and they count driving time as double. The six mile drive to my house from the storage unit took the crew (driving extremely slowly) 25 minutes, to which they then count as 50 minutes, rounded up to the next hour?so that's when they break out the charge slip and require the purchase of extra time at $125 per hour. So basically, this deal is really only for two hours for $399.
I just wish companies like this would quit it with the tricks and "extras". Just charge a flat rate and be honest and up front about the terms and conditions.
