"I would never talk down to any person regardless of the situation my instructions on maintenance and care were never followed the underground drip tubing was damaged over and over again by the people that were hired to weed once a month because the member did not want to pay for a good gardener . If my recommendations are ignored over and over again there is nothing I can do to help . Weeding once a month on new ground over is not acceptable because the rooots in the weeds grow to big and when pulled it would require a digging tool . This creates three problems the new ground cover and roots are pulled up with the weeds and can never fill in and grow healthy, the weed matures and flowers dropping more seeds into the soil sowing more weeds when pulled and finally the tools used rupture the underground drip irrigation tubing . All of this was explained I returned twice to repair and add more grouncover even after a year installed and went over the care but the homeowner refused follow my watering instructions and maintenance. I even provided contacts for a good gardener but the homeowner thought it was too much to pay per month. The reason I wanted to speak with the husband is because she wasn't able to answer my questions as far as how often it was being weeded , fertilized and watered. Those who've worked with me know that I would never disrespect my reputation speaks for itself."
We could not have been happier with the way the project turned out. Ray and his crew are fantastic!!! We provided Ray with a sketch and some ideas and he turned our front-yard into a work of art. The whole neighborhood has complimented us on how beautiful the yard is and we've even spotted people taking pictures. There are other comments on this site that say Ray is an artist and I have to agree - he is amazing!! He took the time to drive us around the nursery and helped us pick out the right plants to accomplish a beautiful and serene environment. It turned out to be a front-yard paradise! We made it clear that the project had to be dog-friendly so he let us know which plants we liked were poisonous and offered great alternatives. We had a lot of concrete work done as well and it looks terrific! We will definitely use Ray again to help us transform our pool area into a back-yard paradise and I would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a top quality project done the right way!! Even though the cost of the project was more than we initially wanted to spend, the results are PRICELESS!!!
From the beginning Ray was very responsive and professional. He understood what our intent was and executed the work professionally. His team was also very responsive making modifications in the field and also making corrections when necessary. Ray gave the best price out of 4 bidders but he was also selected because he does all of his work in-house. He does not subcontract out the work and he doesn't require the owner to find their own subcontractors for things like electrical and pools. The work took a little longer than we expected, partly because his guys had to do some repair work for other clients. In the end though the schedule worked out very well for us. My wife and I were even able to go away on vacation for 2 weeks and leave control to my mother-in-law. Ray's team worked well with her too. In the end Ray's team got us exactly what we wanted and we are able to enjoy our new backyard. I would rehire Ray again. I have even recommended him to my friends and family.
Ray is a great communicator which is one of the two things I appreciate about him as a contractor. The second is that he hires skilled, courteous people. One of the guys discovered a live electrical wire while they were digging and it was immediately shown to me and i was able to have another contractor at the house repair it. You'd think that would be a no-brainer, but it isn't. I've had other contractors not disclose that information or care since it wasn't their field.
After paying to fix our foundation I was horrified to find water draining into it after a short rain last winter. And I was equally horrified to find out that water from our property drained directly into our neighbor's garage. Ray quickly came up with a plan. I loved that he wasn't condescending about it, just very clear.
I highly recommend R & R. After months of renovations on our new home with various contractors, I never dread talking to Ray. That counts for A LOT.
"This was one of those projects that as a contractor designer you think your not going to get the job. It was a little bit out of our range as far as distance from where we are located and it seemed like a small project but it turned out to be a very fun and exciting experience. I drew the design for the member along with the estimate and there was no hesitation on their part to move forward. It was impressive to me, the freedom of bringing together what I envisioned. It was a small front yard , a little over two thousand square feet. But it turned out to be absolutely beautiful even to my surprise. I really enjoyed this one and I want to thank all the members that have faith in our company to accomplish their transformations. Ray"
"This was a project in which we encountered many difficulties. It was a learning experience. The project was located on Woodrow Wilson in the Hollywood hills. It involved replacing an existing fence on a hillside, clean up and converting all irrigation to drip along with planting drought tolerant and native plants. To begin with the only access to the backyard hillside going up at about a 30-40% angle was up a ladder for 16' and it was about 3' wide. After that there were hazardous stairs set in railroad ties by the homeowner in the past. During the project there were a few injuries from my crews along with poison ivy infections on a couple of my guys. All debris from the clean up had be removed through this precarious maze and there was no room for parking or loading and unloading materials. On top of everything the homeowner almost always had to be there while we were working for access. My biggest mistake was not taking all of this into consideration when we bid the project and gave the member an estimated time frame. We ended up taking three times as much as I thought we were going to take and losing money on the project with half my crews beat up to the point where they wanted to quit. But we stuck to it and finished it. It wasn't the best experience for neither the member or us. Would I do it again ? Yes for three times the money and three times the man power. Would the member hire us for that kind of money? Of course not. That's why the only contractors that are awarded these jobs and end up in situations like us are contractors that haven't experienced the degree of difficulty a project like this takes. In retrospect we should of hired a crane but the job didn't pay for that. Therefore I think given the situation most contractors would of walked out but we finished it and although it wasn't our finest moment or our finest grade, the job got done at the agreed quote."
