TEST ONLY CENTER-MOE'S SMOG

Friendly and fast.

Went great. Minor wait, test and then on my way. Very familiar with the car as most are not. About $8 cheaper than the smog check closer to home.

I needed a test-only smog check for my most recent renewal. Moe's is first come, first served, but wasn't too busy when I when in the morning. Quick service from Patrick.

I liked Test Only Center- Moe's Smog, there were no surprises and I went there for a smog check and that is what I got.

The place is small. It's pretty clean for an independent garage. There are some fairly recent mags and a TV for your amusement.
Seems like first-come, first-served, so you're likely going to wait.
The owner is a nice guy, even though he may seem gruff at first. Ask about one of his project engines or his Camaro and see him light up. Also, unlike some smog places that hire young guys who don't drive well, this guy won't smoke your clutch if you have a real sports car.
All the smog places charge the same, so why not go someplace with a little character and competent staff?

This is the place to go. This place is a hole in the walI, but I guess it was just for a smog check. You won't be impressed by the waiting room/bathroom combination. However, it wasn't about the asthetics, but the service. I was greeted promptly, got right in and right out in 20 minutes with a completed smog inspection. The cost was $50 including the $10 coupon. Patrick was friendly and professional, didn't rush through his work but was deliberate and didn't waste time. Even though the smog check is another ripoff by the State of California, going to Moe's at least made it more tolerable.

I called to confirm I would be able to come in on Saturday, he said it would be no problem but he does not take appointments. I printed a $10 coupon from his web site and drove in. It's just him, no receptionist, and he had 4 cars waiting. He was unfailingly professional, did each car in 10 to 15 minutes, and then ran my car (which passed). In the meantime I looked over the 2 cars and a motorcycle he was restoring in the back of his shop. It was obvious his workmanship was meticulous. His shop was clean -- no greasy floor or disorder, and the parts from his restorations were out of the way so that a reasonably careful person could go back there safely (though he did keep an eye on the couple people who wandered back there). Ask him about his projects, and he'll cheerfully talk about them, without delaying what he's doing on the smog inspections. I'll probably end up buying one of his project cars.
