They did an amazing job. Not only did the couches come back as though they were bought new directly from a showroom floor but I can't say enough about the service through the process. Great consultation. Great pickup/deliver. Great after service recommendations. Can't recommend more highly.

After I picked out a fabric at their store, someone came to pick it up. They quoted 2 weeks to do the job and that is now long it took. We really did not want them to hurry. When the rocker came back, my husband thought for a minute that it was a brand new chair. It looks like a small jewel. 5 generations have already relaxed in this little rocker. It is ready for a few more.

During the last few years we have had five pieces of furniture reupholstered. We were always welcomed and given extensive help with material selection. They truly enjoy the work they do. Each reupholstered piece of furniture came back looking elegant and were again very comfortable. Sterling Custom Upholstery is simply the best we've been able to find in the Bay Area. The owner, the manager, the manager's assistant and the crafts people do their work like the early crafts people who arrived in America. This is what our country is about and needs to be about in the future.

I was concerned that the cushions wouldn't be as comfortable as the previous down ones but I was assured by David that foam is the way to go. The staff was very friendly and courteous and the service was so fast. I had new cushions in less than two days. The new inserts fill out the seat cushions perfectly and they fit great on the sofa. Sitting on the cushions is comfortable and not springy like I had feared. The staff even took extra effort to pick out all the feathers that had been stuck to the covers. They carried the new cushions out to my car for me. It was like I had brand new cushions. I have more cushions to be repaired so I will definitely be going back to Sterling. It really made my day to have such a great experience!

I was not totally satisfied. They made good on fixing it but the attitude was more less that we were being picky. The cushions were done totally different than we had contracted for. The owner was quite aggressive and the store is a mess itself and I guess upholstery stores tend to be that way because they have a lot of fabrics so I am not finding fault with that but it was not what we had expected. They were not professional. It was a couch that had been very expensive initially and had been upholstered in a very nice fabric, wood rounded corners and they brought cushions back to see cushions were just 90 degree sharp corners. So I felt that was not what we wanted and they had changed it very drastically so they said we can fix that. So they did take the cushions but it was with a certain amount of reluctancy and the lady told me this is the very latest type of cushions and I have them throughout my home and it was why was I questioning their taste. But I said your taste may be one thing but I have been  in the upholstery business for long enough to know that different people have different tastes. And we wandered around and after we had gotten back it was a very professional job done and they did do but just the remark like, mine is the real latest did not really settle very well with me. And we have down pillows in the back and in the poor fabrics those little feathers pop through and our original fabric it had taken 19 years for them to pop through and they are popping through now. And I asked her about that and it is not enough to make any difference now but the couch is less than a month back here and she said well we put the deck on it to stop that but those were your original cushions so in other words what could I expect. So there are just little things like that, I wouldn't say they were bad but they did not set well with us. They responded majorly for the cushions and took them back but it was all done reluctantly and you have a feeling like why are you satisfied. They were very prompt and they gave us a very realistic window of when we would get it back and it got back and the delivery man was very nice. He had told me that I didn't have to pay until the next day and I wanted frankly to take a look at it. And the delivery man being very conscience said I was told to get a visa now and I phoned her and she said yes please pay him now whereas originally she had given me 24 hours to take a look so just little things like that. They were very fairy. They showed me books with certain price ranges and I could have gone up the step with the fabric and they were also very straight forward and informational about the different blends.

The whole experience was seamless. Very professional, knowledgeable and friendly staff.  The staff provided several sample books and suggested several fabrics in each book.  I returned the sample books with the chair.  The chair was beautifully done and delivered to my home at the agreed upon date.

They gave an estimate, I brought them in the next day and got them back a day or two later.
It was quick and painless. I dont know why I waited so long to get this done.
The workmanship is wonderful. My slouchy old couch now looks almost brand new.

The people were very friendly and pleasant to do business with, and did an excellent job on the new cushion. The price of $230 seemed a bit high, but I had no previous experience with this kind of work and didn't get any other quotes, so I don't know what other companies might have charged. They estimated the work would take two weeks. It took two weeks and two days, which was close enough for me. I would use them again, but I'd get other quotes as well before doing so.

My point of contact at Sterling was Michelle. I worked with her to select the fabrics, and her expertise was very helpful to ensure my selected fabrics would meet all my needs, i.e., I have cats who like to claw the furniture and a coach potato hubby who tends to destroy the seat cushion at his regular seating place.







Michelle also worked with me to determine the level of firmness for the furniture and the level of fullness for my pillows that I wanted. One might think that the level of fullness for my pillows is kinda picky, but that is not how I was treated. My desires were fully considered and met with this job. Also, the guys who picked up and delivered the furniture were very professional and in/out very quickly.







The finished work was exactly what I wanted and expected and all the pieces except the 2 roll pillows were ready exactly when promised, and I was kept apprised of the status of the 2 roll pillows until they were completed. I've already recommended Sterling to a friend who is thinking about re-upholstering a sofa. I will definitely use Sterling again when a further need arises. Very professional company.

I had been hesitant to discard this beloved sectional couch and chair, although it was "trashed" after 30 years. I started looking at getting it reupholstered back in 2007, but the quote was always too high. I got another recent quote, but I was not confident with the handling of the quotation process and decided to look elsewhere. I found Sterling in Angie's List and I went in to get another quote. Michelle helped me, and she worked up a quote while I was looking at fabric selection. I immediately had a sense of competence and caring from her. She helped me to make fabric selections and told me that it would probably take a month. One month later, I had my sectional back, it looks terrific, like new, and I think it is even more comfortable than when I first bought it. I would highly recommend this company for any size job.

I am not sure of the exact date of the work, but Sterling reupholstered a stuffed rocking chair that was an antique belonging to my grandmother.  My daughter hired Sterling, and was extremely pleased with the quality of the work, as well as the general experience working with Michele and her team at Sterling.  The work was done well, on time, with great enthusiasm and my grandmother's old rocker has never looked better.  They even repaired the broken springs in the rocker so that it works perfectly.  We will definitely hire them again, and are currently planning to have them reupholster a sofa for us. Note that I am required to include a "Home Build" year in my review, but since the work was done on the company's premises, it is not relevant.  I used the build date of my own house, for what it is worth.

My 85 year old Dad was looking for a comfortable chair to replace his favorite 30 year old chair.  The chair was a quality piece of furniture that had withstood 30+ years of regular use. We had been looking for a new chair and couldn't find anything even close in comfort or quality. We wondered if re-upholstery would be an affordable option and turned to Angie's list.  We contact 2 businesses and Sterling Upholstery far surpassed our expectations.We were greeted by Michelle and promptly became aware of her exceptional knowledge of her business and furniture in general. Michelle listened to what we needed and guided us to a variety of fabric samples. She was very knowledgeable about the types and qualities of the fabrics and easily pulled out samples that met our quality, durability and price point.We took several sample books home for several days and selected a fabric. We called Sterling to tell them we were ready to go and they arranged to pick up the chair the following Monday. We were told the fabric was in stock and the job would take about 3 weeks.When we contacted them at three weeks they said the project would take another week; they said we had been told 3-4 weeks. That was our only disappointment; everything else went very well.
The chair was delivered the following week at the specified time and it looked beautiful.A week later my dad determined that the back cushion did not have the proper cushioning. When he contacted Michelle the discussion when very well a pick up of the chair was scheduled. It was very clear that the goal of Sterling is quality work and exceptional customer service- which the many Angie's List awards on their walls confirm.The company promptly made the necessary adjustments and delivered the chair a week later and so far it seems to be perfect.Not only were we pleased with the knowledge and customer service of Sterling's principals Michelle and Dave, we were very impressed by the courtesy and timeliness of the delivery team. Their attention and genuine desire to ensure the customer was satisfied was very apparent and reflected the overall high quality of the company and our experience.
The chair was returned 1 week later- and after several weeks of regular use- my dad is pleased with the results.
