taste in my mouth. On the first job, I was assured that the wall heater vents and ceiling cold air return grill would be removed and painted in enamel and replaced when dry. I found out later l(after the second job) that they had been painted in place and thus effectively "sealed" to the wall and ceiling so they could not be removed without damaging the surrounding paint and the vents could not be adjusted for air flow. When I questioned the on-site supervisor about this later, he told me that even though I had been told the "company policy", the different painters on the crew did things differently.
On the second job, the same thing occurred with the heater vents, which are unfortunately high up on the wall (or ceiling in one case and I have cathedral ceilings) and are now unadjustable and unremovable without damage. My mistake for not catching it and making them fix it! But in addition, someone on the crew apparently poured something caustic down my bathroom sink drain which etched and pitted the white Corian sink and surround. The company for a while refused to believe that anything had gone wrong or that someone on the staff had erred. Finally, however, the company head agreed to repair the sink and found someone who was able to restore the original finish. The company paid for this and it was not inexpensive. I do appreciate their having stepped up to do this.
The last item was the front door which was to be painted a high gloss dark greenish-black. This was done but within a year the paint strangely started fogging up, with big dull patches appearing randomly over the whole door. There was no clear diagnosis as to whether the paint was bad, the prep work was poor, or something else had gone awry. The company did repaint the door, but not quite the agreed upon color or sheen.
Even after the problems experienced, I did ask this company to bid on the re-staining of my exterior shingles. I figured I now knew both their strong and weak points and would simply make sure that the written contract was very detailed. When I went in this direction, I stopped hearing back from the company with regard to that bid and have not heard from them since.
