Cencal Roofing

We manage residential homes.  When you need roof repair or a new roof-call them first.
They are not perfect-nor are we. But what they do-day in and day out-is deliver good value 24-7. They have done several homes for us and when I have a roof issue on my home-they are the only ones I call. 
We have used them for several years and while they are not the only call we make for roofing-they are the FIRST call.

I was told they would use Owens-Corning roofing and couldn't schedule the job until the material was in their warehouse.After they removed all of the old roofing they told me they couldn't get Owens-Corning and would have to use another brand (off brand and cheaper than the one agreed on). As I have a bare roof with just plywood I had no choice but to go with the off brand.
They sent me an invoice demanding payment before the job was finished.When they did finish they didn't clean-up. There were parts of roof material and pieces of sharp sheet metal all over my yard and my neighbor's yard.I stopped counting the number of roofing nails I found when I got over 300. There were nails in the yard where my dogs walk and nails in my neighbor's yard.
They put their ladders up on the gutters without protecting the paint. I had to retouch the paint and some of the gutters were bent.
I  had to have another roofer come over to finish exposed wood and nail down some of the flashing.
 and patch some of the stucco.Had costed me $500.After all that I received a lien notice from their supplier. They had not paid for the material used on my roof. After many phones calls and a letter to the Contractors State License Board, the lien was removed.

The owner helped us pick out the appropriate roof and gutters for our remodel. They took off the old roof and installed the new roof and gutters in approximately 2 days. They did come back to correct a flow issue with the gutters without any questions asked and made the correction. They were very professional.

They are local. I though they were good. They are not real cheap but it is a quality roof. The guys they hired to put the edging back on did a lousy job but they did a great job on the roof.

The work started on the date given in the estimate.  The owner was there to see work started.

After tear-off, the crew told me that some of the plywood would need to be replaced.  I asked what the cost would be and was told that the owner of CENCAL would call me.  He never called, but the work went forward.  The crew stopped working at 4pm on Friday before Labor Day.  There was a section that needed to be shingled and they left a pile of scrap on the  roof.  I was informed by the crew that they would be back Tuesday after Labor Day.  I called the office, got voice mail.  No one returned my call.

Two roofers showed up Tuesday morning to finish.  When they started to leave I noticed the scrap pile still on the roof.  They informed me that a different crew would be by "sometime".  When I called the office I was informed that the cleanup would be finished "sometime" Tuesday.  I complained.  The cleanup crew arrived within an hour.  No one, the original estimator nor the owner, has followed up.  I did receive a bill yesterday - 40% more than the estimate, for the additional sheets of OSB to replace the plywood.

I feel the quality of the work is great.  I'm just bothered by the lack of followup and communication.  I found additional debris piled on a patio cover. 

It went very well.  The crew arrived promptly at the time that was set. They were professional, prompted and courteous.  We had another bid for $25,000.00 without rewiring the tiles.  

I got bids from 3 companies....Cencal was in the middle. I walked neighborhoods in Los Osos looking for roofs that looked relatively new and were attractive. I talked with numerous homeowners and found many had used Cencal and were very happy customers. The other two companies I got bids from had few customers in my area or had some good/some not so good reviews. I sat down with Don at Cencal twice for a discussion of the contract, explanation of what they were going to do and guidance on what to look for in roof quality and appearance. Erin, the office manager, provided me with product samples to take home, addresses of homes they installed a particular shingle I was interested in and answered various questions via e-mail. Cencal was generous with their time (not speedy in and leaving an estimate in my mail box) while I researched various roofs, etc. They phoned me the day before starting the job.....started the job on schedule....took off the roof in 2 days and put on another roof in 2 more days. All the workers were polite, answered my questions, and kept our property clean while tearing off a messy tile roof. They also did a final clean up leaving our property cleaner than when they started. Cencal provided me with a reasonable bid....excellent customer support....high quality roof/installation. I highly recommend Cencal.....if I had more roofs to put on, I would only use Cencal.
