I found Parkstone on Angies list and contacted them because of the good reviews and the cost of the jobs listed were in line with what we expected our job to be. I sent him an inspection report and photos from another vendor. He contacted me right away and made an appointment for his own inspection. The owner Wilfe Betke, was prompt and did a quick inspection to verify the info I had already sent him. He verified that the report we got from a Chimney sweep & Inspection company was accurate and confirmed the chimney would have to be rebuilt. He sent his bid a few days later which was in line with what we expected. The original bid we got from The Chimney Sweeper was 25% higher. We also got a bid from Boston Brick and Stone. The bid from Boston Brick was exactly the same as Parkstone until I pointed out a complication of our job, then they increased the price. I went with Partkstone because the owner came out, he seemed knowledgeable, and Chimney rebuild is all he does. After I return the signed contract to him he contacted me on when the job would start. He came out with the crew the first day and got them started setting up the scaffolding. I'm not an expert but the scaffolding appeared to be well set up and safe. The crews arrived promptly each day, they cleaned up each day and communicated with me on the status. They missed a couple of days but I was always kept informed about why (concrete setting, waiting for inspection, etc.). The job was finished on time at the contract price. I should mention that before I got the formal bid Wilfe offered to bid the job as permitted or non-permitted. The non-permitted option was much less and it was good to have the option. We wanted the job permitted which takes longer and is more expensive because we know when you sell a house you have to disclose any non-permitted work. After the work was done and I had given them the final payment I noticed they missed a spot painting. This was because a gate was in the way. I called Wilfe and he sent someone to finish the paint a couple of days later. Of the 3 bids I got I'm glad we went with Parkstone.
His work was professional and completed on time. I would highly recommend him. Be sure to check him out before signing a contract with someone else.
Fortunately I found Wilf, whose honesty and integrity are noteworthy. Work was performed as promised: on time, with a professional and courteous crew, and a result I know I can trust and depend on. I wouldn't use anybody else for chimney work.
I don't recommend anyone else.
The job went extremely well. I had Wilf perform an inspection three (3) years ago when I was buying the house but just got around to being able to do the work. And it was the perfect year to do so as we had a cold and wet fall and winter and we were warm and snuggly inside with our roaring fireplace!
Wilf and his team are knowledgeable, friendly, professional, timely and extremely hard working. I would not hesitate to use them or refer them again!
Great work, fair price, clean, timely, professional. Highly recommended.
Repaired 2 fireplaces...managed to repair fireplace surround which saved thousands compared to replacing.
Very no nonsense group. Great work.
He gave us two estimates as he wouldn't know the full extent of the damage until he started demoing the chimney. Initially he was scheduled to start in early September, but when I asked him he could move the date, he was kind enough to do so when other work was available to him. Took a lot of pressure off our cash flow! Not only that, good news for us that the scope of work was within the lower estimate.
He started work and was finished in about 2.5 weeks. We weren't living in the house until the very end of his work, but when we did overlap with this workers they were professional, prompt and courteous.
He did an excellent job and was a real pleasure to work with, very responsive and professional.
