We spoke to a lot of lenders and brokers during this, our first home purchase experience. We discovered two things: 1) They're salespeople (this is not a criticism, by the way, but there are good salespeople and bad salespeople as we all know); 2) The loan process these days is especially difficult as banks and the FHA, in particular, are doing everything they can to not fund a loan to anyone who is less than 110% qualified and for any property that shows any risk whatsoever. Although our "file" was strong and in the 110% range (superb credit, FICO score, employment, etc.) we still ran into hurdles along the way and Christina's superlative salesmanship (that is, I should say, NON-salesmanship--or, rather, that her nurturing, patient, consultative approach) got us through. We needed basic information, from the very beginning, and in plain English, which Christina provided. She provided options, when necessary, and researched alternatives, when asked, and unsolicited updates throughout the process, and seemed like a true advocate for us--not the bank. This is a young-ish woman who is clearly building a business based upon referrals--makes no secret about that--and her goal is to meet and exceed your expectations at every turn. We called Christina on weekends, evenings, etc.--all per her invitation to do so--and her response was never long off. And, at the end of our experience with her, after weeks and hard work and negotiation, and when our escrow was canceled because we and the sellers couldn't come to terms on certain repairs to a home, Christina accepted the news (the news, in other words, that she wasn't going to make a dime on this and that her work, at least thus far, was all for naught) with utter grace. Like any good salesperson, it was not about this deal, this time--it was, instead, about creating a working relationship that could last a lifetime. We remain in the housing market, as of this writing, and we will continue to work with and recommend Christina at every turn. She's a complete and reliable pro.
