The house really need new paint, and there were a lot of wires etc. that had been attached to the house since it was painted last.
Some trim had been painted before, but some was applied with different colors.
The painters fixed all small imperfections in the siding and on the beams and rust proofed all rusty nails.
In addition all outside lamps were removed before painting and we had bought 6 new fixtures which they mounted.
All garden furniture, potted plants, BBQ and small plastic storage sheds were moved away from the house before work begun and an awning was removed, pressure washed and then put back up after all painting was finished.
All decks, ground and bushes were thoroughly covered before painting, avoiding any "spill".
The newly re-paneled chimney was also primed and painted.
We used a light blue base color for all the walls, a darker blueish trim around all windows, white around the entrance door and one of the sliding doors, plus a very dark red color on the double entrance door.
The appearance of the house, all trim, doors and windows came out truly marvelous.
The work was finished in three days. Start to completion. Definitely faster than I had hoped for.
A total of three painters were involved in the work, although all three didn't need to be here whole time. The painters were all local; were here on time in the mornings; worked all day and were extremely pleasant, helpful and easy to talk to and work with.
Brian had a good sense of color combinations and gave us a lot of good advice. I would strongly advice using Brian's services and would definitely use Brian again. Brian and his outfit are thoroughly professional; a no-nonsense outfit.
The whole job from start to finish took five days. Everything was handled well. Great crew, good communication, beautiful house!
At the end of each day, the workers placed all tools and materials in a secluded area, and cleaned up all debris connected with the day?s activities.
Before they left, I did a final inspection. I gave it a ?thumbs up.?
I am very pleased with Brian?s work
"I’m totally shocked by this review because I left the [Member name removed] home knowing we did a great job. In fact, I inspected the completed paint job with [Member name removed] and he seemed very satisfied. I’m wondering if he actually wrote this review himself because we got along well and he seemed very happy with the work we did. I called to discuss this review and got no answer, so I feel I need to set the record straight. As the owner of Brian Stock Painting, I personally manage each and every job site, know exactly what is being done, and hire experienced painters whom I completely trust to do good work. I had my best painter on this project and he did a great job. I also visited the site daily and did some of the work myself. One of the challenges with this house were older, tightly fitting window sashes which required extra prep and sanding - WHICH WE DID. Even after that, my painter said the window frames were still extremely difficult to slide open, something that requires a carpenter not just new paint. Since the [Member name removed] were planning to sell the house, [Member name removed] seemed fine with just painting the windows, so that is what we did. We did tell him to leave the windows open as long as possible to allow the paint to cure. Unfortunately the homeowners decided to clean the windows a few hours after completion, so of course, some sills were sticking. When that happened, [Member name removed] called me. I personally discussed this on the phone and immediately (that same afternoon) sent my painter back to correct the problem, so I’m not sure what “un-returned” phone call he is referring to. After we fixed the windows, the client was satisfied and the job was complete. And as far as the pressure washing...again we did what was originally requested. After starting the job, the client asked to have the patio done as well, which was not clearly communicated when I prepared the bid, but we were happy to work it into our schedule. We did the entire job, including the additional patio work, within a very reasonable time and at a very fair price. Other than the initial sticking window frames, I NEVER heard about any other concerns. If I had, I would have taken care of it personally. Days after we completed the job the homeowners continued to mess with the stubborn window frames which caused more damage to the fresh paint surfaces. I never expect homeowners to try and fix any paint failures themselves. It’s always better to have a professional correct any problems. Homeowners also need to realize, just painting a surface cannot fix underlying structural issues. Again, if I had known about on-going concerns with the window frames, I would have been happy to fix them. I just found out about this weeks after the job was completed, when I read this review! I pride myself on being VERY responsive to customers needs and always return calls as quickly as possible. [Member name removed]seemed happy with the work we completed and paid me for a job well-done, so I’m completely baffled by his review. The majority of my customers are extremely happy with my work, as you can see by other reviews on Angie’s List. I approach every job with complete professionalism and guaranteed results. Whenever a homeowner has concerns, that I am made aware of, I make it right! I’m just sorry [Member name removed] didn’t give me the opportunity to do that before this review was posted."
During the estimate, Brian gave practical advice on other problems he noticed. I can't tell you how helpful this company is---there was professionalism across the board with the owner and crew through out the project. Brian kept me posted and was responsive. He actively manages his crew, checking the site quite a bit. As this is the cell phone era, you don't always see that. He does what he says, and does it well. Like another poster, I did not use the Angie's coupon because Brian's bid was competitive already and the piece of mind I had working with him---immeasurable! They finished quickly as they knew this rental supports a retired couple.
Thanks again, Brian, for taking a beat up old house and transforming it into a charming beach house! I would work definitely work with this company again., and would be comfortable referring them to friends and family.
"A pure pleasure working with [member name removed], her two big dogs were great, her roommate also made us very welcome, another good job, thanks for the great response."
"[removed member name]were great customers, they were off to play golf when i was there and I was dying to join them"
"Most folks have painted a room or two in their home, so they have a basic understanding of what it takes. While I appreciate some of my clients concerns, I’m the professional with over 35 years of experience and I approach EVERY job with skill and consideration for my client’s needs. I explained to her what we do when painting the walls on a stucco house. We spray on one coat very thick and then back roll it with a very nappy roller to make sure the paint is even and bonds well with the old coat of paint. We then spray another coat over that. That was the process we used on all stucco walls. All the trim and the garage doors were hand brushed and rolled with two coats of finish. She mentions that we only primed a small section of the trim, which is true, because we only prime problem areas mostly on wood and metal and there was some badly peeling paint on that section of trim. The reason for applying primer on woodwork is to seal in tannins (which are acids in redwood and other types of wood), for metal to control rust and to make the finish coat bond better. We primed the problem areas on her house and then gave those areas two coats. Applying primer to an entire house is a waste of both time and money unless the entire home's previous paint job is failing. My client also mentioned that I was not on the site as often as she would like, and I left the work to my guys. I always meet homeowners, discuss their bids and supervise my job sites as much as possible. In fact, I prefer to do a lot of the work myself, but sometimes it’s hard to control schedules. I may have to run to the paint store, do a bid or deal with another homeowner. That’s why I hire painters who are skilled, hardworking and honest. I can’t be on the site every minute, so I trust my guys to do great work and report to me several times a day. If a painter isn’t doing this, he doesn’t work for me and if there's a problem, I personally take care of it. I feel the price for this job was very reasonable, in fact after buying all the body color, I reduced my bid by $400.00 because my client provided some paint. My client and her sons were at home, watching every move we made, so I don’t understand their concerns. I'm not sure they realized we did in fact apply the necessary primer and applied two coats of paint to all surfaces. When my client asked about the coats of paint at the end of the job, I offered to do some extra work to avoid any misunderstandings, but she refused my offer. I hope she will realize that she got a top quality job. Since I’m a member of the Angie’s List family, I do everything I can to keep customers happy. I take pride in a job well-done and I don’t take any shortcuts. I rely on fair and honest reviews from customers to help build my business. With every home or business I paint, I guarantee my work for five years, so if there's any paint failure, I'll take care of it. Bottom line, this homeowner got an expert paint job for a great price. Sincerely, Brian Stock"
"This was a great job painting the Monterey Youth Hostile. It was great seeing all the young travelers many from foreign lands enjoying our Monterey Peninsula, made me want to get on a bike and join them. We followed the same color pattern as before and I was very happy with the finished product. Working with the crew at the hostile was great , very considerate to all our needs."
"I apologize to this client and will not refer this other contractor who was not on his game here. It won't happen again"
Be sure that you let Brian know if you end up with an Angie's List coupon so that you and he are on the same page from the get-go.
"These guys were great to work with."
