Electrical Service
The contractor told me they would arrive at 8:00-8:30. They called at 8:00 and told me they wouldn't arrive until 10:00. They arrived at 10:00.
There were 3 electricians. They unloaded their supplies and within 45 minutes they were ready to turn off the electricity. I elected to have a new panel installed instead of using the original panel because of the complexity of using the existing panel. My house was buit in the early 1960's.
I should tell you that I was supposed to have a 200 amp panel installed 5 years ago. A new panel was installed but it was 100 amps. Permits were not pulled and Edison was not notified. The result was that I had a panel that was over utilitized. The wires coming from Edison were too small for the 100 amp panel.
Smart Choice pulled permits from the City and is dealing with Edison to make sure they upgrade the wires to the house. They will give me a copy of the permits once the City signs off tomorrow.
They completed their work at 7:00 pm. Rather than putting the grounding rod at in the front by the water shut off, they put it in the garage by the water heater so the front is aesthetically pleasing.
I cannot say enough good things about this contractor. They went above and beyond the call of duty by cleaning up existing wiring and replacing conduit. All penetrations of the house were meticulously sealed. I thought I might have some wiring not in conduit under the house, so they checked while they were down there and told me everything looked good. They pointed out existing wiring that could cause an overload and made recommendations.
They also installed a ceiling fan. They were respectful of my home and took their shoes off and placed drop clothes in the work area. They recommended replacing the junction box with a metal box. They also recommended moving the location of the boxl a little to the right so they could tie into a joist. This left a whole in my ceiling but I can have that repaired.
Smart Choice Electric is a smart choice. I would hire them again for any project, large or small.
(I hope I used the correct construction terms in this review.
